Duties

Stream 1
- Analyze translation service requests and communicate with clients to confirm the nature of their request, determine their expectations and establish the project conditions.
- Assign the work and identify the appropriate internal and external resources to effectively meet client needs within a reasonable timeframe.
- Manage translation projects.

Stream 2
- Collect, extract and assemble data from various reports and systems.
- Prepare and present reports, analyses and dashboards related to strategic objectives and operational activities for decision-making and planning purposes.
- Analyze and develop strategies, processes, tools, etc. that will optimize and modernize data collection and processing.
- Propose changes to operational procedures, practices and processes; participate in the identification, development and implementation of training needs.

Translation Bureau

The Translation Bureau is the Government of Canada’s centre of excellence for linguistic services. It plays a leading role in various areas of federal government activity and, thanks to its culture of innovation, is increasingly recognized within the Canadian language services industry as a leader in language technologies.

Stream 1
The Parliamentary Translation Directorate provides the Parliament of Canada and associated organizations with a full range of linguistic services. The role of the Request Processing Centre team is to assign translation requests received.

The Parliamentary Translation Directorate is looking for committed, motivated individuals who enjoy working in a stimulating environment focused on client service excellence. Stream 2
The Resource Management team provides research, analysis, coordination, project management and administrative support to the Service to Parliament and Interpretation sector. The team's role is to support the entire sector in resource planning and the development, implementation and evaluation of strategic and operational plans.

Intent of the process

The immediate intent of this process is to fill one (1) indeterminate position and one (1) determinate position with the possibility of extension. The process may be used to create a pool of fully or partly qualified candidates for similar positions at Public Services and Procurement Canada with varying security requirements, linguistic profiles and terms.

Because of the pandemic, Translation Bureau employees are currently working from home. If telework becomes unnecessary, depending on the operating model adopted by the Translation Bureau, you may be required to report to and work at the offices in Ottawa. As our telework arrangements are evolving, we encourage you to apply.

Remote working and a telework arrangement may be considered. Such arrangements are considered on a case-by-case basis and should be discussed with the hiring manager.

Translation Bureau employees will probably move to a hybrid telework environment at a later date. Details are not yet available. In a hybrid model, full-time presence in the workplace for a period of time might be required. The work requires extended periods of concentration and keyboarding while working at a desk.

For the position of stream 2: Reliability Status

Stream 1 only
Willing and able to work overtime on short notice (evenings and weekends).
Rotating shifts: 8:00 a.m. to 4:00 p.m., 8:30 a.m. to 4:30 p.m., 9:00 a.m. to 5:00 p.m., 10:00 a.m. to 6:00 p.m., and noon to 8:00 p.m.

Owing to the variable and unpredictable nature of the work, positions in the Parliamentary Translation Directorate are entitled to sessional leave in addition to the regular leave entitlement. For more information, please see Appendix B of the PA collective agreement (https://www.tbs-sct.canada.ca/agreements-conventions/view-visualiser-eng.aspx?id=15).

In accordance with operational requirements for sessional leave, applicants must be willing and able to change schedules and work overtime on short notice evenings, weekends and statutory holidays and be regularly on call outside normal working hours.
