Are you passionate about Canadian businesses and intellectual property (IP)? Do you have a strong desire to serve the public in a fast-paced, complex and interesting field where every file is different? IP Examiners at the Trademarks and Industrial Designs Branch (TIDB) are responsible for assessing and processing applications by individuals and companies for registration of trademarks and industrial designs in Canada. This means that each application is examined for registrability in accordance with the applicable Act and Regulations, based on defined policy and practice.

In addition, examiners will be encouraged to work from home on a regular basis. If operational needs so require, they may need to report to the office a few days a month.

It should be noted that the selected candidates must reside in the National Capital Region (NCR) or accept to relocate there.

The Canadian Intellectual Property Offices are located in the Portages complex at Portage I, at 50 Victoria street in Gatineau. We are close to the Canadian Museum of History, walking and jogging trails, and parks such as Parc Jacques-Cartier. In addition, we have a transit system that provides multiple stops and connecting points to all residents of the National Capital Region. As such, it will be easy for you to travel to the office whether you are from the Ottawa or Gatineau area. You can also enjoy restaurants, fitness centers and the Place du Centre shopping center.

Intent of the process

Initial appointments are expected to take place in Winter 2023. For this reason, qualified candidates who will receive a job offer must be available to begin several weeks of online training on these dates.

In addition, a pool of qualified candidates will be established to meet the future needs of the organization.

EDUCATION:
Diploma from a recognized post-secondary establishment (CEGEP, community college or university) OR an acceptable combination of education, training and experience(1).
