You are a highly motivated individuals who has a keen interest in mechanics. The DND Maintenance Apprenticeship Program, in conjunction with Lakeland College, will offer students a 4 years development opportunity in an indeterminate position with the opportunity to access higher level position once fully qualified.
Successful candidates will learn the trade and develop their skills by working on various type of military vehicles.

The objective of this process is to staff four indeterminate positions.
A pool of partially qualified or qualified candidates may be established for temporary and permanent positions with various security levels, language profiles and locations.

EDUCATION:
🔸 A secondary school diploma.
OR
🔸 Currently enrolled in an AB Provincial Heavy Equipment Technician Apprenticeship as recognized by the Alberta Apprenticeship and Industry Training board.
OR
🔸 Registered in an interprovincial Standards Red Seal Program for Heavy Equipment technician such as heavy duty equipment mechanic (off-road) or heavy equipment technician – truck and transport mechanic.
ASSET EDUCATION
🔸 Successful completion of first, second or third year of schooling towards a Journeyperson Certification as an Auto/Heavy Duty/ Commercial Transport Mechanic.
🔸 Class 3 with Air Break Endorsement Driver’s License.
🔸 Standard First Aid certification.
ASSET EXPERIENCE
🔸 Experience in the repair and maintenance of commercial diesel vehicles or heavy-duty equipment or vehicles.
🔸 Experience working or volunteering in a mixed civilian and military environment.
ASSET KNOWLEDGE
🔸 Knowledge of the basic principles of the repair, overhaul and maintenance of gasoline or diesel engines, manual, automatic and power shift transmissions and components of heavy equipment.
🔸 Knowledge of basic trouble-shooting techniques and practices.
ASSET ABILITY
🔸 Ability to locate, read, interpret, or apply technical information, i.e. service manuals, drawings, and related publications.
🔸 Ability to use and interpret mechanical or electrical test equipment.
🔸 Ability to detect and troubleshoot problems.
🔸 Ability to organize work to meet deadlines.

OPERATIONAL REQUIREMENTS:
🔸 Willingness and ability to work overtime
🔸 Willingness and ability to work in adverse conditions/environments which may include, but not limited to, confined spaces, heights, and extreme weather conditions.
🔸 Willingness and ability to perform physically demanding tasks including lifting and carrying up 25 kg, bending, climbing stairs and climbing into heavy equipment in compliance with safety regulations.
🔸 Willingness and ability to attend employer directed training.
🔸 Must possess and maintain a valid unrestricted provincial or territorial driver's license such as Class 5 License in Alberta.
🔸 Must be able to obtain and retain a DND 404 driver’s license
❗Depending upon the position to be staffed additional operational requirements may be added.
Reliability Status security clearance
🔸 Must be able to wear CSA approved safety footwear and other Personal Protective Equipment (PPE) in compliance with safety regulations.
🔸 Must possess and maintain a valid unrestricted provincial or territorial driver's license such as Class 5 License in Alberta.
🔸 Must be able to obtain and retain a DND 404 driver’s license
🔸 Must be willing and able to successfully complete their Apprenticeship program within a 4year period.
