Assessment accommodation

Duties

Conducts research, analysis, development, testing and implementation of changes to the department's software solutions and services.
Designs, develops, tests, implements and maintains software solutions on various technology platforms and supports quality assurance activities.
Produces programming or test specifications, writes new or modifies existing code and produces technical documentation such as user guides and related documentation.
Participates in the selection, installation, configuration, testing and development of software tools and ensures adherence to the department's programming, testing and development standards.
Provides technical advice, application assistance and delivers training sessions to internal and external clients.
Supports the development of departmental/agency work processes, standards and guidelines.
Participates as a member on projects, leads short-term projects or reviews or monitors work of contractors.

Work environment

The Canadian Forest Service (CFS) of Natural Resources Canada is a science-based organization that provides science and policy expertise and advice on issues related to forests and the forest sector at regional, national, and international levels. A core mandate is to conduct scientific research on Canada’s forests. This research is used to inform forest management planning and policy decisions and to assist the forest industry, the public and other scientists. CFS scientists conduct research and provide expertise on topics such as forest fires, pests, inventory and monitoring, climate change, integrated resource management, sustainable forest management, restoration, industry innovation and more.

Intent of the process

The intent of this process is to staff one permanent position.

A pool of candidates may be established through this process to staff identical or similar positions at the same group and level within Natural Resources Canada with various tenures (determinate period or permanent), various language requirements (English Essential, French Essential, English or French Essential, or Bilingual), and profile(s) (BBB/BBB, CBC/CBC, CCC/CCC, etc.), various security requirements (Reliability status or Secret clearance).

In order to be considered, your application must clearly explain how you meet the following (essential qualifications)

• Graduation from a two-year program of study from a recognized post-secondary institution with acceptable specialization in computer science, information technology, information management or another specialty relevant to the position to be staffed.

Degree equivalency

• Experience in developing, maintaining, and providing support of custom web applications
• Experience in programming using JAVA
• Experience manipulating data in a relational database environment and developing SQL statements
• Experience in interpreting user requirements
• Experience in system testing
