A Service Canada Benefits Officer (SCBO) is an exceptional individual who uses their talents and natural curiosity of problem solving and client focus to make a difference in the lives of Canadians. In this role, you will adjudicate contentious issues related to claims processing. You will conduct fact-finding interviews and obtain missing information needed to determine eligibility for benefits.
You will use your judgment when interpreting and applying policy and legislation. You will make decisions on client files and utilize your strong written and oral communication skills to document and deliver decisions.
Extensive training and development opportunities will allow you to acquire a comprehensive and up-to-date knowledge of Service Canada’s programs and services.
Working conditions require change management, stress management and difficult conversations to determine eligibility.

The majority of our Service Canada Benefits Officers are able to work from home. ESDC is committed to supporting flexible work arrangements, including virtual work. Equipment and technical support is provided for our Service Canada Benefits Officers who are working from home.
The intent of this process is to create a pool of qualified candidates at the PM-02 level (Service Canada Benefits Officer), to staff positions within the Benefit Delivery Services Branch of Employment and Social Development Canada in Western Canada. This pool could also be used to staff similar positions of various tenures within Employment and Social Development Canada.

EDUCATION:
Secondary school diploma or an acceptable combination of education, training and/or experience.
EDUCATION NOTES:
A Secondary School Diploma refers to a High School Diploma.
