Provide advice and guidance to departmental managers regarding the collection of statistical data on Quebec marine fisheries and data processing requirements;
Develop and conduct research and custom analyzes related statistics, policies and/or programs;
Produce customized reports in order to provide technical, analytical and operational support in the case of studies and analyzes to facilitate decision making on policies and/or programs;
Develop and monitor the implementation of methods to collect statistical data in a timely and accurate manner;
Develop and provide training and technical support to users of data;
Lead committees and working groups to examine the methods and protocols governing data quality control.
Currently, the purpose of this process is to staff one position (1) for an indeterminate period. This is an anticipatory process to create a pool of qualified candidates with various profiles and durations within the Department of Fisheries and Oceans Canada for the Quebec region.

Education
A degree from a recognized post-secondary institution with acceptable specialization in economics, sociology or statistics.
Note:
1- Candidates must always hold a degree. Specialization courses must be acceptable and have been completed at a recognized post-secondary institution, but not necessarily as part of a degree program in the area of the required specialization. The specialization may also consist of an acceptable combination of education, training and/or experience.
2. An indeterminate incumbent of a former ES position on June 30, 1967 who became an EC on June 22, 2009, and who does not have the minimum level of education set out above, is considered to meet the minimum standard of education by reason of education, training and/or experience.
Experience
Experience in data processing. This may include: data collection, preparation, entry, verification and validation;
Experience in analysis and interpretation of statistical data.

Experience (Assets)
Experience in the use of Department of Fisheries and Oceans Canada information systems for fisheries management.
Experience working in training and providing technical advice to data users.
Experience in the management of protected data and in the application of the Privacy Act in data management.

SELECTION PROCESS

Candidates must meet the essential qualifications to be appointed to a position.
Candidates may be required to meet asset qualifications depending on the requirements of the specific position to be staffed.
Candidates from outside the federal public service may be required to assume responsibility for their travel expenses during the assessment.
Random selection may be used to determine who will advance to the next stage of the evaluation process
Preference will be given to veterans first and then to Canadian citizens and permanent residents, with the exception of a job located in Nunavut, where Nunavut Inuit will be appointed first.
