CANMET Materials operates a pilot scale metal casting facility to support the materials research. CANMET’s overall priorities are focused on the following program areas: Materials for Energy End Use; Materials for Energy Generation; Materials for Defense; Emerging Materials; Pipeline Materials.
Area of Focus / Specialization:
The primary functional areas include supporting the vacuum induction melting activities to produce experimental metals; supporting activities to produce near-net-shape forging blanks for metal automotive structures; supporting basic research activities to produce novel alloys; supporting activities to produce alloys for nuclear power generation. The work is primarily hands-on, with office and administrative requirements. It includes maintenance activities related to the primary functional areas.
Client Service Results:
Under guidance, as a member of the Casting team reporting to the Casting Lab Supervisor: This technologist will contribute to liquid metal experiments at lab and pilot scale, by participating in the preparation, setting up and carrying out of experiments within a team environment. This will involve some independent work but the primary functions will take place in a team environment.
A pool of fully or partially qualified candidates may be established through this process to staff identical or similar positions at Natural Resources Canada and in the Federal Public Service with various tenures (determinate period or indeterminate), to staff positions with various language requirements, various security requirements, various conditions of employment and for various locations.
