EG04
Provide electrical support on electrical services to clients – research scientists, research engineers, technicians/technologists or managers on projects funded by government departments, cost-recovery or external stakeholders such as power generating stations and oil companies.
Coordinates and establishes electrical services required as part of scientific projects and for commercial and industrial applications with departmental, interdepartmental and non-governmental clients and partners to advance the integration of science and policy.
Ensures all electrical services are compliant with Canadian Electrical Codes and Canada Standards Association.

Plan and perform the design and development of electrical installation projects. Plan and coordinates
the preparation of scope of work, design and specifications, fabrication and installations of electrical
systems and recommends on resource requirements, while ensuring quality assurance and control
services during all phases of project delivery for scientific research projects. Provides technical
advice to clients throughout the scope of the projects.
Prepares and interprets electrical and instrumentation diagrams and consults reference materials to
plan or determine work requirements for projects. Oversees the installation or installs stationary
equipment according to layout plans. Inspects and examines electrical equipment to detect and
investigate complex irregularities and malfunctions. In addition, adjusts and repairs or replaces
defective parts, and performs routine maintenance work on machinery, set-up and carry out
preventive maintenance schedules.
Conducts on-site evaluations and inspections; maintain technical logs, records, and inventories; order
supplies, prepare work orders and purchase orders, assist with issuing contracts, and provide weekly
reports and timesheets within planned schedule.
Incorporates health and safety guidelines and procedures in operational activities and work site, and
ensuring compliance with all relevant electrical codes and standards in system design and electrical
installations.

Provide technical, design, development, operations, advisory services and support, as the master electrical authority on buildings and test facilities on specific multi- discipline projects, to clients - scientists, engineers, technicians and managers to ensure compliance with all relevant electrical codes and standards.
Project Management - Provides expert technical, analytical leadership/advisor services on special projects that include planning, costing, HR allocating, coordinating, conducting and overseeing the activities to meet objectives.
Supervise a team of electricians and technical staff including apprentices and temporary workers (certified electrician), in the conduct of design and development projects.
Incorporate health and safety guidelines, processes and procedures in work processes and the design of products, in according with the Canadian Standard Codes and ESA (Electrical Safety Authority).

This position is located at the Bells Corners Complex, situated within Ottawa’s Greenbelt, yet close to restaurants and shopping within the area of Bells Corners. Situated between Nepean and Kanata, we are close to the Bayshore bus station as well as the Eagleson/Terry Fox Park and Ride with bus access to the Complex.
