Duties

This exciting opportunity will allow the nominated candidate(s) to play a key role in the design, manufacturing, and operations of cutting-edge space projects in the fields of Earth observation and space exploration!
As part of your role, you will be called upon to engage in rich interactions with national and international suppliers of space equipment.

Here are some of the key tasks:
• Performs technical verifications, studies and analyses in support of Safety and Mission Assurance (S&MA) activities relative to the design, development, manufacturing, integration and testing of space and ground systems, payloads and missions.
• Provides S&MA support during Mission operations and disposal phases for these projects.
• Performs audits and assessments of contractor-furnished hardware, processes, test results, and other documentation, in order to verify compliance with S&MA, system and software requirements.
• Provides expertise relating to quality assurance, product design and manufacturing, and flight certification of space systems and payloads, to individual project managers and engineers on various projects.
• Contributes to the development, implementation and dissemination of S&MA policies, standards, procedures, formal processes and Product Assurance Requirements.
• Participates regularly in programmatic and formal technical review meetings.

Intent of the process

The immediate intent of this selection process is to staff four (4) positions on an indeterminate basis (permanent) within the Safety and Mission Assurance Team - Programs and Integrated Planning Directorate .

A pool of qualified or partially assessed candidates will be established to staff identical or similar positions whose length, linguistic profiles and security profiles may vary, within the Canadian Space Agency and other federal departments.

ESSENTIAL QUALIFICATION - EDUCATION

Graduation with a degree from a recognized post-secondary institution*, in an engineering specialty relevant to the duties of the position such as, but not limited to: Aerospace, Aeronautic, Chemical, Civil, Physics, Computer, Electrical, Industrial, Mechanical, Software, Materials, Systems.
OR
Eligibility for certification as a professional engineer in Canada with specialization in an engineering specialty relevant to the duties of the position to be staffed.

*Candidates with foreign educational credentials are required to provide proof of Canadian equivalency.

Degree equivalency

ESSENTIAL QUALIFICATION - EXPERIENCE

EX1: At least four (4) years of experience within the last ten (10) years in evaluating, analyzing, solving engineering problems and/or in making recommendations, including two (2) years related to Quality Assurance, Product Assurance or Safety & Mission Assurance (S&MA) as part of space aerospace or military engineering projects.

EX2: Approximately two (2) years of experience in performing technical verifications of space, aerospace or military systems (for example, review of implementation plans provided by contractors, in terms of product quality and assurance, , audits, inspections, review of design, and others).

EX3: As part of space, aerospace or military projects, approximately two (2) years of experience in participating on boards such as, but not limited to:

- Material Review Boards;
- Configuration Control Board;
- Design or Manufacturing Review Board, Test Readiness Review, Acceptance Review for hardware or software testing data.

ESSENTIAL QUALIFICATION - KNOWLEDGE

- EEE (Electronic, Electrical and Electromechanical) parts;
- mechanical parts;
- software and/or firmware;
- materials and processes;

K2: Knowledge of Safety and Quality Assurance practices* or processes* used in hardware or software verification activities, as part of space, aerospace or military engineering projects.

* As accepted or prescribed as being correct or most effective by national space agencies such as the National Aeronautics and Space Administration (NASA) or European Space Agency (ESA).

EA4: Experience* in defining requirements, troubleshooting, testing, developing or implementing processes, procedures or audits used in the development of hardware or software for space or aerospace systems.

EA5: Experience* in performing studies related to safety hazards and reliability in the space, aerospace or military field.

EA6: Experience* working on the International Space Station Program.

EA7: Experience* in products safety certification.

EA8: Experience* with COFR (Certification of Flight Readiness).

*Experience refers to the performance of relevant work activities over an accumulated period of approximately 2 years in the last 10 years.
