DFO is seeking to recruit enthusiastic individuals to join its team of economic analysts dedicated to the support of Federal policy, program and regulatory responsibilities in accordance with the Fisheries Act, Species at Risk Act and Oceans Act etc. with the goal of ensuring healthy, safe and prosperous fisheries and oceans for the benefit of current and future generations of Canadians.
The successful candidate will provide support to the Policy & Economic Analysis Branch, by conducting research and analysis, developing options and recommendations, preparing briefing material, and organizing working group or committee meetings.
Key tasks include: supporting the gathering, socio-economic analysis, and reporting of qualitative and quantitative data to other Branches and Divisions in order to support DFO’s mandate and priorities. Also providing active support to working groups leading national or regional initiatives; supporting legislative and regulatory amendments, fisheries management measures, and major policy development efforts; and supporting the implementation, coordination, and performance measurement of strategies.

The immediate need is to staff two (2) full-time term positions (one at the EC-02 level, and one at the EC-04 level).
A pool of qualified candidates will be established and may be used to fill similar positions at the qualified classifications, in various locations, of various tenures and conditions of employment within Fisheries and Oceans Canada (DFO).

EDUCATION:
• Graduation with a degree from a recognized post-secondary institution with acceptable specialization in economics, sociology or statistics.
Notes:
1. Candidates must always have a degree. The courses for the specialization must be acceptable and may have been taken at a recognized post-secondary institution, but not necessarily within a degree program in the required specialization. The specialization may also be obtained through an acceptable combination of education, training, and /or experience.
2. An indeterminate incumbent of a former ES position on June 30, 1967 who became an EC on June 22, 2009, who does not possess the minimum level of education as indicated for Part A above is deemed to meet this minimum educational standard based on his/her education, training and/or experience.

EXPERIENCE: EC-02 and EC-04
Experience conducting economic, socio economic and sociological research, studies, forecasts and surveys in domestic and/or international settings.
Experience in preparing written documents such as presentations, briefings, reports, or publications.
Experience working with large datasets using software such as Excel, R, SAS, etc.
EDUCATION:
• Graduation with a Masters or PhD degree from a recognized post-secondary institution in a field relevant to the position, such as economics, statistics, environmental studies, or natural resource management.
EXPERIENCE:
• Experience in providing input and recommendations on issues or policies.
• Experience in analyzing information related to fisheries and fishery values.
Experience in supporting the development of collaborative relationships with internal or external stakeholders.
