Environmental Assessment Coordinator :
The Environmental Assessment Coordinator will coordinate reviews and comments for CWS and provide technical advice related to wildlife for proposed development projects that are proceeding through an environmental assessment in Nunavut, Northwest Territories and Yukon. The Environmental Assessment coordinator will also review and process Species at Risk Permit applications. The Environmental Assessment Coordinator will work directly with project proponents and the northern environmental assessment boards to minimize project impacts on wildlife. CWS is involved in all stages of the project review including pre- environmental assessment to advise on baseline data requirements and post environmental assessment to advise of the adequacy of mitigation and monitoring plans through to closure and reclamation.
Species at Risk Stewardship Coordinator :
The Stewardship Coordinator will lead and support specific projects within the CWS Northern Region related to wildlife and habitat conservation. Projects in Yukon, NWT, and Nunavut will include Territorial, Indigenous, Environmental Non-Government Organizations, and the public. The coordinator will work directly with conservation partners at all stages of conservation project development and provide Grants and Contribution support for funding and capacity development. The leadership and role of the coordinator will ensure successful investment of conservation initiatives to improve Canada’s environment. The coordinator will work in a team environment to deploy various conservation programs in Canada’s north.
A pool of qualified candidates will be created to staff similar positions with various tenures (indeterminate, specified period, deployment, assignment, secondment, acting, acting extensions).

Education (Streams 1 and 2):
• Graduation with a degree from a recognized post-secondary institution, with acceptable specialization in physics, geology, chemistry or some other science relevant to the position.
Experience:
(Streams 1 and 2)
• Experience analyzing, interpreting or providing program, scientific or policy advice on wildlife or wildlife habitat.
• Experience working effectively with Indigenous communities and organizations, government, regulators, environmental non-government organizations, or industry on environmental protection or wildlife issues.
(Stream 1)
• Experience leading or working in a team responsible for the implementation or coordination of an environmental program related to wildlife or wildlife habitat.
(Stream 2)
• Significant * experience in evaluating, analyzing, recommending and implementing grants and contributions programs.
• Experience in negotiating and drafting contribution agreements.
• Experience leading or participating on multi-jurisdictional or multi- stakeholder partnerships focused on issues or activities related to environmental conservation.
* Significant experience means experience obtained by the candidate that is representative of the depth and breadth of experience that would normally have been gained performing the duties for a period of approximately two (2) years.
Asset Education:
(Streams 1 and 2)
• Graduation with an advanced degree (Masters, Doctorate) from a recognized post-secondary institution in a natural, physical or applied science with specialization in a field relevant to the duties of the position.
Asset Experience:

• Experience supervising and mentoring staff.
(Stream 1)
• Experience with the environmental assessment of large project proposals such as mines, oil and gas production or pipeline developments, roads etc.

• Knowledge of legislation and programs relating to the conservation of migratory birds and species at risk.
(Stream 1)
• Knowledge of environmental assessment processes and principles.
• Knowledge of impacts of development on wildlife and wildlife habitat and measures to mitigate these impacts.
• Knowledge of bird or other wildlife monitoring techniques, and methods for the analysis and interpretation of wildlife and wildlife habitat resulting from monitoring.

• Knowledge of biology and ecology as they apply to the conservation of wildlife and their habitats.
• Knowledge of the role of other wildlife agencies, non-government environmental organizations, local governments and Indigenous governments in the conservation of species at risk, migratory birds and their habitats in Northern Canada.

• Ability to speak an Indigenous language of the Yukon, Northwest Territories or Nunavut.
Conditions of employment may vary depending on the position to be staffed. They may include some or all of the following:
