EDUCATION:
Graduation with an acceptable doctoral degree from a recognized post-secondary institution in a field of the natural sciences related to the duties of the position, or the employer-approved alternative for the SE classification. (See Note 1).
Note 1:
The employer-approved alternative for the SE classification is an acceptable master’s or bachelor’s degree coupled with acceptable research, training and experience. The degree must be from a recognized post-secondary institution and in scientific fields and specialties related to the duties of the position. The training and experience must clearly demonstrate the ability to do personal research of doctoral degree calibre.
Note 2: If you were educated outside of Canada, you must have your certificates and/or diplomas assessed against Canadian education standards. EXPERIENCE:
Significant* experience managing a science program including leading the development and delivery of collaborative projects including proposals preparation, human and financial resources allocation and project management (Excludes Supervision).
Significant* experience in leading scientific risk assessments or in the development of risk assessment methodologies or in leading the delivery of collaborative research or monitoring projects.
Significant* and Recent*** experience providing strategic advice and recommendations to senior management** through written and verbal briefings related to science-based operational or regulatory programs.
Significant* and Recent*** experience in developing and maintaining consultative and collaborative working relationships with internal and external partners in support of collaborative projects.
Recent*** Experience in financial**** management.
*Significant experience is defined as experience in which the person’s primary responsibilities include these duties and refers to the breadth and depth as well as the complexity of tasks that is normally associated with having performed a broad range of related activities which are usually acquired over a period of two (2) years
**Senior manager level: senior level is considered to be at the EX-01 level or equivalent in the public sector or the equivalent of Vice President, Director, and Senior Director or C suite management level in the private sector.
*** Recent experience is defined as experience normally acquired within the last five (5) years.
**** Financial management is defined as experience in which the candidate was responsible for managing an operational or salary budget and encompasses financial planning, forecasting and accountability.
ASSET EDUCATION:
Graduation with a post-graduate degree (PhD or Master's) from a recognized post-secondary institution with specialization related to the duties of the position in any of the following; biology, toxicology, chemistry, biochemistry, epidemiology, pharmacology, environmental science, public health, health science.
Experience providing scientific leadership in the area of human health risk assessments.
Experience leading the planning and delivery of programs in the area of chemicals management.
Experience in managing the operations of a research laboratory
Experience in managing an air pollution health science program (excludes supervision).
Experience leading multidisciplinary research with an air pollution and human health component(excludes supervision).
Experience in managing a water quality health science program(excludes supervision).
