Duties

This project involves evaluating the potential for applying core-scale reservoir engineering techniques including rate/pressure-transient analysis (RTA/PTA), that could reproduce the boundary conditions under which fluids (e.g., H2) are injected/soaked/produced in the field, for H2 permeability/porosity estimation in target formations/interval to assist with ‘faster’ and more reliable sample screening for future site selections and field implementations. Key objectives for this activity include advancing our understanding of H2 storage and flow mechanisms and controls in typical samples from various target formations (e.g., deep coals, depleted gas reservoirs, evaporites). The workflow involves sample selection, preservation, screening, and short/long-term, single/multi-cycle injection, soaking, and production of H2 at variable subsurface conditions (e.g., stress, fluid saturation, etc.) to assess the controlling mechanisms/factors on underground hydrogen storage processes.
