Duties

Public Services and Procurement Canada manages one of the largest and most diverse portfolios of real estate in the country and is the Government of Canada's real property expert. Our Pacific Region extends from the Canada/US border to the Arctic, including British Columbia and the Yukon Territory. Our real property professionals include office accommodation specialists, architects, engineers, environmental scientists, real estate experts and asset and facility managers. Our work in delivering services is equally diverse; it includes construction and repairs to federal correctional facilities, research laboratories, border crossings, remote harbours as well as office fit-up in owned and leased facilities.

As a Geomatics Surveyor you will work in an inclusive environment with a great enthusiastic team and work on interesting projects with a variety of state of the art technology.

With this team you will lead and work to execute legal surveys on behalf of the Crown and protect the public.

Intent of the process

One position is currently available at the Vancouver office. A pool of qualified candidates will be created and may be used to staff similar positions with various tenures (permanent or temporary) with various work locations in PSPC Pacific Region. Should the selected candidate already be a public servant, the pool could also be used for acting appointments.

In order to be considered, your application must clearly explain how you meet the following (essential qualifications)

EDUCATION:
Graduation with a degree from a recognized post-secondary institution with acceptable specialization in land survey theory and practice or other related field such as geomatics, geodetic sciences or remote sensing.

The courses for the specialization must be acceptable and must have been taken at a recognized post-secondary institution, but not necessarily within a degree program in the required specialization. You must be prepared to provide the original or a certified true copy of your educational credentials.

Degree equivalency

OCCUPATIONAL CERTIFICATION:
Practicing Land Surveyor in the Province of B.C.

EXPERIENCE:
Experience in providing advice on legal surveys and survey boundaries to clients.
Experience in ascertaining correct Natural Boundaries during legal field surveys.
Experience in conducting Legal, Topographic surveys.

KNOWLEDGE:
Knowledge of land tenure concepts of ownership for Crown owned properties.
Knowledge of GPS data collection, GPS post processing.
Knowledge of integrated survey methodologies.
Knowledge of the B.C. Land Title Act and B.C. Land Act.

ASSET QUALIFICATIONS

EXPERIENCE:
*Significant experience using “Civil 3D 2020”

*Significant will be evaluated in regard to amount, complexity and diversity of work handled, and level of autonomy demonstrated. Clear and specific examples should be provided by candidates in their application.

Conditions of employment

Security Clearance Requirement: Reliability Status.
Willingness and ability, in the future, to undergo and maintain additional security clearance such as secret and secret enhance, in order to meet government and clients’ needs.
Pre-placement and Periodic Health Evaluation.
Possession of a valid driver’s license.
Willingness and ability to:
• work overtime when required
• travel out of town when required up to three weeks away from home.
• work in remote sites with rugged terrain
• travel in various modes of transportation such as float planes, helicopters, and small vessels
