Duties

The Safety Awareness Team in the Transportation of Dangerous Goods (TDG) Directorate at Transport Canada creates and maintains relevant and trending material to ensure all parties understand their responsibilities and comply with the Transportation of Dangerous Goods Act and its Regulations.

Some of the key activities of the Program Advisor position include:

• Functions as the Team Lead for all projects within the Safety Awareness Division by administering, assessing and providing recommendations and mitigation strategies on how to better target audience and plan awareness sessions
• Evaluates and provides recommendations as to whether the Transportation of Dangerous Goods (TDG) Directorate will attend events.
• Liaises, revises, provides technical advice to ensure the TDG Safety Awareness Material is updated accordingly for deadline and milestone approvals.
• Implement appropriate stakeholder engagement by revision of presentations, events and documentation.
• Develops collaborative approaches and ensures compliance with established requirements and policies in the development and revision of Safety Awareness policies and procedures.
• Participates in internal and external committees and working group meetings involved in the analysis and development of strategies and plans for Safety Awareness guidance material and events.

Who is the Transportation of Dangerous Goods Directorate?

They develop safety standards and regulations for industry, undertakes compliance oversight, and provides expert advice (through the Canadian Transport Emergency Centre — CANUTEC) on dangerous goods incidents to promote public safety in the transportation of dangerous goods by all modes of transport in Canada. With the increase in dangerous goods shipments over the years, it is imperative that we continue to educate and provide guidance material to all stakeholders in the safe handling and transport of dangerous goods within Canada. What is the work model?

Transport Canada is adopting a hybrid work model, which is a combination of on-site and remote work. You will be required to work in one of Transport Canada's regional offices* two (2) times per month, with additional days depending on operational requirements. At the time of hiring, a work arrangement agreement will be put in place, which may be modified over time based on various considerations such as operational requirements.

Intent of the process

The intent of this process is to staff 2 position on an indeterminate basis with different language profiles (BBB/BBB and English or French essential). However, a pool of qualified or partially qualified candidates may be established and may be used to staff similar or equivalent positions in Transport Canada where tenure, language requirements and security requirements may vary.
