Duties

The data architect will have a crucial role in establishing and maintaining data management, integrations and data and analytics standards. The data architect will need to understand business data capabilities and ensure that IM/IT has the appropriate solutions, technologies and investments in place to support the business outcomes. The data architect will work closely with the enterprise architect as well as be integrated into project teams and act as the data lead to ensure that solutions and technologies adhere to FCAC’s and the Government of Canada architecture standards.

Intent of the process

We are seeking to staff one (1) indeterminate (permanent) position.

This selection process may be used to establish a pool of qualified candidates, which could be used to staff similar or identical positions with various linguistic profiles (BBB/BBB and CBC/CBC) and requirements, security profiles and various tenures.

EDUCATION

Successful completion of an undergraduate degree in computer science, information technology, information technology, information management, mathematics, statistics, or another specialty relevant to the position to be staffed.

Degree equivalency

EXPERIENCE

Significant experience* with data architecture, data governance, and data management.

Significant experience* performing data modelling, data mapping, development, data extract, transformation and loading of transactional databases, data warehouses and data marts.

Significant experience* using Structured Query Language (SQL).

Significant experience* with Business Intelligence (BI) and Data Analytics, including data mart, reporting models (E.g., cubes, tabular models, datasets in Power BI), and visualization (i.e., reports and dashboards).

Experience analyzing and transforming data-related business requirements and change requests into technical specifications.

* Significant experience is defined as depth and breadth of experience normally associated with the performance of those duties for a period of three years or more.

CERTIFICATION

Possession of more than one of the following certifications:
• DP-203, Azure Data Engineer Associate
• DP-100, Azure Data Science Associate
• DP-500, Azure Enterprise Data Analyst Associate

Experience using Microsoft SQL Server Integration Services (SSIS) or Azure Data Factory (ADF).

Experience on non-BI Microsoft cloud technologies and platforms such as Dynamics 365, Power BI, Power Apps, Power Automate, and other Azure services that are not related directly to data and analytics.

Experience working with REST API or OData in data solutions.

Experience using ERW in as a data modelling tool.

Experience leading date architecture, data management and data governance activities.

Experience providing functional leadership to a technical team in a matrix environment.

OPERATIONAL REQUIREMENTS

Ability and willingness to work overtime when required.

KNOWLEDGE

Advanced knowledge of Microsoft Cloud technologies relating to data engineering, data science or enterprise data analysis.

Advanced knowledge of data modelling, relational database design principles and SQL scription languages such as T-SQL.

Advanced Knowledge of Agile Software Development Lifecycle, and that applies to Data Analysis and Business Intelligence initiatives.

Note: The required knowledge will be validated by the possession of one of the three Microsoft Certifications below before the end of the written exam period (to be announced to candidates who are screened in for the written exam). FCAC will provide one Microsoft Exam Voucher to these candidates to write the exam and obtain the certification, as necessary. Candidates who already have the certification(s) are exempted from the written exam.
