Duties

The Agriculture and Agri-Food Canada Prairie Region is seeking a dynamic and motivated agricultural data analyst to support multidisciplinary research in bioeconomics. The agricultural data analyst will work to research, organize and provide initial summaries of diverse data sets from AAFC research scientists to facilitate economic analysis within a wide variety of agricultural science research settings. The data analyst will also provide statistical and analytical support to determine the economic and agronomic performance of new or alternative crops and resource management technologies (cropping systems, soil management, crop rotation practices and precision farming and fertility trials) to be available and accessible to the research scientists at STB. The data analyst will run preliminary analysis of data sets when required and summarize data collection methods and advice for writing relevant sections of reports and quality manuscripts.

Work environment

Brandon Research and Development Centre supports innovative research, development, technology and knowledge transfer activities related to the following AAFC Science Sector Strategies, Agro-Ecosystem Resilience, Cereals and Pulses / Oilseeds and Horticulture focusing on developing new and improved varieties of wheat, oats and barley, sustainable and profitable crop production systems, and agro-ecosystems. This research advances scientific knowledge and delivers innovative technologies in the areas of: agricultural management systems and land resource conservation for the Black and Dark Gray soil zones; agro-ecological processes and environmental sustainability; varietal development of barley; beef production systems and management.

EDUCATION
Graduation with a degree from a recognized post-secondary institution with acceptable specialization in economics or statistics and a specialization in agriculture.

Note: Candidates must always have a degree. The courses for the specialization must be acceptable and may have been taken at a recognized post-secondary institution, but not necessarily within a degree program in the required specialization. The specialization may also be obtained through an acceptable combination of education, training and/or experience.

Degree equivalency

EXPERIENCE
Experience working in data-focused activities.
Experience with data preparation, analysis and organizing secondary data sources.
Experience using a statistical package (such as Statistical Analysis System SAS).
Experience developing collaborative working relationships with multidisciplinary teams.
