The immediate need of this process is to staff 1 position. A pool of qualified candidates resulting from this staffing process will be established and may be used to fill similar positions with various tenures.

In order to be considered, your application must clearly explain how you meet the following (essential qualifications)

Successful completion of a secondary school diploma or an acceptable combination of education, training and/or experience.

Degree equivalency

"Recent and significant experience” (Please see NOTE 1) working in the Canadian Railway industry in at least one of the following disciplines:
• Passenger rail car inspection and maintenance
• Freight rail car inspection and maintenance
• Locomotive inspection maintenance and testing
• Mechanical rail certification/qualification gained in the railway industry or through CANAC/FRA.

Experience working with Microsoft Outlook, Excel and Word.
Experience in managing projects related to railway activities.
Experience in providing technical advice and preparing technical reports.
Experience in conducting audits, inspections, investigations or quality assurance assessments.

Note 1: “Recent and significant experience” is understood to mean the experience normally associated with having performed a broad range of related activities which are normally acquired over a period of at least (4) years; and the performance of those duties within the past (5) years.

Certification or training as a Carman, Heavy Duty Mechanic or Railway Diesel Engine Mechanic.

Degree equivalency

Experience in management or direct supervision of employees involved in inspection and maintenance of railway passenger or locomotive equipment, railway safety programs or railway mechanical projects.
Experience in investigative and enforcement techniques and procedures.
Experience as a company Dangerous Goods Officer.
Experience in risk management.
Experience in the development and delivery of education and awareness programs.

Willingness and ability to work in adverse environments and weather conditions.
Willingness and ability to work in noisy dusty and dirty conditions.
Willingness and ability to work alone in isolated areas.

Conditions of employment

Security: Reliability
Possession of a valid provincial or territorial Driver’s License.
Willingness and ability to travel on short notice for extended periods using all modes of transportation.
Willingness and ability to work overtime, including nights, weekends, and including stand-by (on call).
