The Canadian Forest Service (CFS) offers a stimulating work environment with a passionate team and support work-private life balance. The CFS’s Pacific Regional office is located at 506 Burnside Road West, Victoria. The building is close to restaurants, parks, walking and running trails, etc. Employees have access to amenities such as showers, locker rooms, a gym and a secure bike lock up area, allowing them to enjoy activities year round.
The positions are located in Victoria, British Columbia. However, due to the COVID-19 pandemic, it is currently possible to carry out the tasks by telecommuting. Once the pandemic situation is over, the candidate must be available to perform his/her duties at the office at 506 Burnside West Road, Victoria, British Columbia.
Canada’s National Forest Information System (NFIS) provides information about Canada’s forests and on sustainable forest management. Canada’s National Forest Inventory (NFI) is a statistical sampling of Canada’s forests to assess and monitor sustainable development of Canada’s forests. As a member of the NFIS and NFI project offices you will be working in a software development team focusing on leading-edge technologies, interoperability issues and spatial warehousing (digital maps and remote sensing/imagery), visualization, analysis, reporting and modelling. Our projects include the use of Java, JavaScript, relational and non-relational databases and distributed secured architectures/infrastructures, cybersecurity, cloud computing, large-big data and digital mapping. A focus on cloud solutions and DevOps (software development and IT operations) will be the main streams for these positions.
A pool of (fully or partially qualified) candidates may be established through this process to staff with identical or similar positions within Natural Resources Canada with various tenures, various language requirements (English Essential, French Essential, English or French Essential, or Bilingual), linguistic requirements (imperative and/or non-imperative) and profile(s) (BBB/BBB, CBC/CBC, CCC/CCC, etc.), various security requirements (Reliability status or Secret clearance), various conditions of employment and for various locations.

EDUCATION
Graduation from a two-year program of study from a recognized post-secondary institution with acceptable specialization in computer science, information technology, information management or another specialty relevant to the position to be staffed.

EXPERIENCE
• Significant* experience in programming in Java.
• Significant* experience with software development life cycle management methodologies (e.g. RAPID or AGILE)
• Significant* experience working with relational databases using SQL
• Significant* experience working in a Linux environment.
• Significant* experience working in an Information Management and Information Technology (IM/IT) environment focused on analyzing IM/IT requirements, delivering IM/IT solutions or providing IM/IT support.
• Recent** experience in developing automation scripts using tools such as, but not limited to, Terraform, Ansible and Chef or Puppet within public and private cloud environments.
• Recent** experience in providing advice to technical groups on best practices for Cloud computing usage.
*Significant experience refers to a depth of experience in the IM/IT field that would normally be acquired over a period of three (3) years or more.
