The positions will contribute to the delivery of the National Hydrological Services by providing water resources and applied science engineering expertise that supports the collection, interpretation and dissemination of standardized water resource data and information in Canada. From a solid understanding of the broad scope of water resources engineering, the incumbent will engage in scientific and technical analysis and evaluation of issues regarding water resources through the application of existing and emerging engineering technologies. The incumbent must work effectively both independently and in team environments and will plan projects and may be asked to supervise junior personnel working on the projects. More specific duties of a potential position may include some or all of the following:
• Apply hydraulic and hydrologic principles to the collection and interpretation of water resource data and information.
• Maintain the integrity, safety and related engineering and management systems associated with all aspects of hydrometric infrastructure including cableways, metering bridges and other engineered infrastructure used to support hydrometric operations.
• Develop and execute integrity-related compliance responsibilities with respect to hydrometric infrastructure including inspections, audits and incident investigations.
• Investigate and evaluate new and/or alternative technologies that can be used to replace and/or augment the use of hydrometric infrastructure.
• Prepare project plans, estimates and schedules for hydrometric construction activities taking into account all appropriate municipal, provincial and national codes and regulations, and oversee hydrometric construction activities as necessary providing advice on deficiencies and propose updates or modifications for improvements.
• Life cycle management of the capital assets of the hydrometric program
• Investigate and evaluate new and/or alternative technologies that can be used to improve the measurement of hydraulic and hydrologic variables necessary for effective and efficient monitoring of water resources and to replace and/or augment the use of hydrometric infrastructure.
• Discuss and evaluate results, and provide engineering expertise, guidance and interpretations on infrastructure and construction, environmental site remediation, hydrology, hydraulics, hydrometry to monitoring technologists, water resources scientists, engineering staff, water management boards and international, federal and/or provincial partners.
• Work and interact with a variety of partners and stakeholders, such as: government or private sector scientists, engineers, senior managers, internal and/or external clients, service providers, academic researchers, industry representatives, community leaders and the general public.
The purpose of this process is to staff current and future vacant positions within the National Hydrological Services.
A pool of qualified or partially assessed candidates may be established and may be used to staff similar positions at this group and level with various language requirements, in various locations, with various tenures (casual employment, acting, assignment/secondment, deployment, term and/or indeterminate) within Environment and Climate Change Canada.

Education:
Graduation with a degree from a recognized post-secondary institution in civil engineering, water resources engineering, mechanical engineering, geological engineering, or some other engineering specialty relevant to the duties of the position.
Experience:
*Recent and/or **Significant experience in the design and construction of small infrastructure projects and/or environmental assessments.
*Recent and/or **Significant experience in contract and/or procurement management.
*Recent experience in applying project management principles and/or practices in carrying out construction projects.
*Recent experience in writing scientific or technical reports and/or documents.
*Definition of Recent experience
Minimum of 2 years of experience in each element within the last 5 years and would include experience during academic study.
**Definition of Significant experience
Significant experience is defined as the depth and breadth of experience normally associated with having performed a broad range of various and complex related activities. The amount, the complexity and the diversity of handled cases, as well as the autonomy level may also be taken into consideration.
Education:
Graduation with a master's or higher degree with specialization in Construction or Infrastructure Engineering from a recognized post-secondary institution
Occupational certification:
Currently registered as a professional Engineer in Canada with specialization in an engineering specialty relevant to the position.
Experience:
*Recent and/or **Significant experience in the design and construction of hydrometric monitoring infrastructure.
*Recent experience in environmental site remediation
*Recent experience in Life Cycle Management of Capital Assets.
*Recent experience in developing and/or maintaining partnerships with internal and/or external groups or organizations.
