you meet the minimum age required in the province/territory of work
This includes students with physical or emotional disabilities deemed to have full-time status by their academic institution. Adult students registered in education and retraining programs at the secondary level may also be eligible for student employment programs. Learn more about whether you are eligible.

Note: Preference will be given to Canadian citizens and permanent residents who meet the job requirements.

Duties

The student will be based at the Grenfell Campus of Memorial University and work under the supervision of Dr. Stephen Decker. The student must hold a Bachelor’s degree in a relevant discipline (E.g. biology, geography, resource management) and be currently enrolled, or willing to enroll as full time students, in the Master of Arts in Environmental Policy (MAEP) program at the Grenfell Campus. The student will complete course work as required by the program of study and, in so doing, will become more fully acquainted with the research context, relevant methods, and associated theoretical and analytical frameworks required for the study.

This work will involve collaboration with local Indigenous groups and other relevant stakeholders, the preparation of detailed research plans, the design of survey instruments, the preparation of research ethics applications for Indigenous governments and the Grenfell Campus Research Ethics Board, carrying out qualitative and quantitative human dimensions data collection, data analysis, report writing, and knowledge mobilization activities.

The general objectives of this study include the following:
- Gather and analyze the opinions and attitudes of hunters and other affected stakeholders regarding the conventional murre harvest controls of daily harvest and possession limits as well as harvest season dates
- Gather and analyze the opinions and attitudes of hunters and other affected stakeholders regarding the illegal harvest of murres and solicit recommendations to address the issue in the province
- Examine the extent to which murre hunters are willing to support non-conventional harvest control measures such as a harvest tag system
- Gather and examine the perceptions of hunters and other affected stakeholders regarding murre biology, distribution, habitat, and population status
