Work environment

The positions are located at the Royal Canadian Mounted Police (RCMP) Headquarters, 73 Leikin Drive, Ottawa, Ontario in a modern building with free parking, free use of a gym and a cafeteria.

Functions may also be performed within Canada via a telework agreement from a location outside the National Capital Region.

Intent of the process

A pool of candidates may be established and may be used to staff similar positions within Security Intelligence Background Section (SIBS) at the RCMP on a specified period basis, with various bilingual linguistic profiles and various RCMP security clearances.

Should a Civilian Member (CM) be found qualified and selected for appointment, the appointment will not result in a change of status to the Public Service (PS) category for the CM.

In order to be considered, your application must clearly explain how you meet the following (essential qualifications)

A secondary school diploma or employer-approved alternatives.

The employer-approved alternatives to a secondary school diploma are:
A satisfactory score on the Public Service Commission test approved as an alternative to a secondary school diploma; or an acceptable combination of education, training and/or experience.

Degree equivalency

EX1: Significant* experience conducting law enforcement or security investigations.
EX2: Experience preparing detailed reports related to law enforcement or security (such as Crown Briefs, Information to Obtain Search Warrants, Affidavits, Expert Analysis Reports, Intelligence Reports, etc.).
EX3: Significant* experience working or liaising with law enforcement partners.
EX4: Previous policing experience.

*Significant is defined as the depth and breadth of experience normally acquired with the execution of a diverse range of complex activities. This includes the extent, depth, complexity and diversity of tasks and cases and the degree of autonomy from those activities. Applicants must clearly demonstrate their roles and responsibilities relating to at least two (2) years of experience.

A-EX1: Experience working in a specialized investigative unit in law enforcement such as: Major or Serious Crime, Criminal Intelligence, Commercial Crime, Drug Enforcement, Organized Crime.

Conditions of employment

Reliability Status security clearance - Enhanced reliability, Secret or Top Secret - All applicants for positions within the Royal Canadian Mounted Police will be subject to a thorough security clearance process which includes an interview wherein questions may include (but not limited to), reference checks, previous employment, on-line activities, credit checks, alcohol and/or drug use.

Must reside and work within Canada for the duration of employment in the position.

The current classification of the positions is AS-04 however, as a result of a review, the position may be reclassified to a different group and level. Once the classification of the position is determined, we will have confirmation of the established group and level for this position. Should the classification not be completed upon completion of the process, we will proceed with the term appointments of qualified candidates at the AS-04 group and level, and we will proceed with a reclassification of the employee afterwards.

HOW TO APPLY:
You will be required to answer screening questions to demonstrate how you meet the Essential Qualifications (Education and all Essential Experiences).
When answering the screening questions, it is not sufficient to say that you have the required qualifications or to list your current or past responsibilities. Rather, you must provide concrete examples of tasks you have accomplished with significant details to explain the WHAT, WHEN, WHERE and HOW you acquired each qualification.

2- Title of the position occupied, group and level and the period(s) in which you performed the functions (M-Y to M-Y);
3- Specific details of tasks or projects demonstrating how the experience was acquired (Situation/Challenge, Tasks, Action and Result).

Should your responses to the screening questions contain insufficient details to demonstrate that you meet the screening criteria, your application will not be given further consideration in this process. Candidates will not be solicited for incomplete or possible missing information.

Preference

Preference will be given to veterans first and then to Canadian citizens and permanent residents, with the exception of a job located in Nunavut, where Nunavut Inuit will be appointed first.
