Assessment accommodation

The creation of Indigenous Services Canada is an important development in our renewed relationship with Indigenous peoples. These structural changes will allow our government to work more effectively with Indigenous partners to provide services that improve people’s day-to-day quality of life. Due to the COVID-19 Pandemic, some employees of Indigenous Services Canada are currently working remotely. The department is actively working on a flexible, phased approach for the safe return of employees to their usual workspaces. Therefore, this opportunity may initially be a remote working opportunity.

Intent of the process

The intent of this process is to create a pool of qualified candidates.

It may also be used to staff similar positions with various tenures, various language requirements, various security requirements, as well as various locations within Indigenous Services Canada (ISC) and Crown-Indigenous Relations and Northern Affairs Canada (CIRNAC).

In order to be considered, your application must clearly explain how you meet the following (essential qualifications)

EDUCATION:
•Successful completion of two years of a post-secondary program with specialization in accounting, finance, business administration, commerce or economics* OR possession of The Government of Canada Financial Management Certificate.

*The following will be accepted as specialization:
(1) Current enrollment in an accounting, finance, business administration, commerce, or economics program at a recognized post-secondary institution with successful completion of 60 credits hours towards the degree, or

(2) A degree or two year diploma in accounting, finance, business administration, commerce or economics from a recognized post-secondary institution, or

(3) A degree or two year diploma in an another field from a recognized post-secondary institution INCLUDING successful completion of 15 credit hours in one or more of the following areas: accounting, finance, business administration, commerce, economics or an alternative financially related area as approved by the selection board.

Degree equivalency

EXPERIENCE:
•Recent* and significant** experience in processing financial transactions in an integrated corporate financial system, such as SAP or Oracle.
•Significant** experience in reviewing, analyzing and interpreting financial information.

*Recent experience is defined as within the last five years.
**Significant experience is defined as experience that would normally be acquired over the period of at least one year.

ASSET QUALIFICATIONS:

EDUCATION:
•A degree from a recognized post-secondary institution with specialization* in accounting, finance, business administration, commerce or economics AND experience** related to positions in the Financial Management Group.
•Eligibility for a recognized professional accounting designation. The recognized professional accounting designations are Chartered Professional Accountant (CPA), Chartered Accountant (CA), Certified Management Accountant (CMA), and Certified General Accountant (CGA).
•Actively pursuing and enrolled in the CPA program.

*The following will be accepted as specialization:
(1) A degree in an accounting, finance, business administration, commerce, or economics program from a recognized post-secondary institution, or
(2) A degree in an another field from a recognized post-secondary institution INCLUDING successful completion of 30 credit hours in one or more of the following areas: accounting, finance, business administration, commerce, economics or an alternative financially related area as approved by the selection board.

**Experience required must be related to financial management and relevant to the FI position being staffed.

Degree equivalency

EXPERIENCE:
•Experience in processing Grants and Contributions.
•Experience in processing Travel Claims.
•Experience in processing Accounts Payable.
•Experience in processing Accounts Receivable.
•Experience in processing Journal Vouchers.
•Experience providing guidance and advise to employees and/or travelers on travel related policies and directives.
