Duties

Register victims of crime to receive information about federal offenders and provincial parolees;

Provide registered victims with information about offenders;

Provide general information and assistance to victims about federal, provincial, territorial and local community resources to ensure the victim safety;

Consult with operations staff, case management and security staff regarding victim concerns including Parole Board of Canada (PBC) hearings at Correctional Service of Canada (CSC) facilities, high profile cases, advance notification of inmate transfers, and referrals to victim offender mediation processes;

Respond to complaints of victims of crime regarding both victim services and operations;

Provide information sessions to victims and victim communities;

Provide training and information sessions to Correctional Service Canada staff and offenders.

Work environment

Correctionnal Service of Canada (CSC) recognizes that victims of crime are an important part of the criminal justice system. We also afford victims the opportunity to participate in the federal corrections and conditional release process. Regional Victim Services Units, located in an administrative environment, offer assistance in dealing with victim concerns. They also provide information to victims of federally incarcerated offenders and provincial offenders who have been granted conditional release by the Parole Board of Canada (PBC). Teleworking would be possible.

Intent of the process

Although the immediate intent of this Job Opportunity Advertisement is to staff indeterminately positions, applicants should be aware that a pool of qualified candidates (fully assessed or partially assessed) may be established and may be used to staff similar positions at this group and level within the Correctional Service of Canada. In addition, this process may be used for various tenures (acting appointments, assignment, deployment, indeterminate, specified period, secondment), various security requirements and conditions of employment. EDUCATION

Graduation with a degree or applied degree from a recognized post-secondary institution in a field related to human behaviour such as the social sciences, psychology or criminology, or an acceptable combination of education, training and/or experience related to the position

Degree equivalency

EXPERIENCE

Experience providing needs focused client services and information or working in one or more of the following fields: Victim Services, Crisis Intervention, Emotional Support, Needs Assessment, Social Care Setting, Community Work, Counselling, Court Preparation.

Experience analyzing information, situations, and issues and finding solutions.

Experience in the use of computer software such as Microsoft Outlook, Word, Excel, and PowerPoint.

EXPERIENCE

Experience liaising, collaborating and working in partnership with components of the criminal justice system or outside organizations providing support to victims.

Experience using the Offender Management System (OMS) and/or CRM Victim Application Module.

Experience in case management.

Experience working with victims of crime.

Experience with restorative justice.

Knowledge of the mission, priorities, mandate, and the role of the Correctional Service of Canada as it relates to public safety.

Knowledge of the Corrections and Conditional Release Act, the Canadian Victim Bill of Rights, and Commissioner Directives (CD) 784, 785, and 786.

Knowledge of the role and responsibilities of government and external organizations involved in assisting victims of crime.
