Duties

Provides specialized technical services related to geoscience collections management. Supports the day-to-day management of collections materials and their associated documentation. Requires thorough knowledge and application of technical systems, standards and/or software. Work impacts the integrity of scientific outputs and collections quality. Applies established standard operating procedures and guidelines. Responds to client requests, facilitates access to collections materials, and resolves client issues.

The Geological Survey of Canada is a part of the Lands and Minerals Sector of Natural Resources Canada. It is Canada's premier agency for geoscientific information and research, with world-class expertise focusing on geoscience surveys, sustainable development of Canada's resources, environmental protection, and technology innovation by acquiring, interpreting and disseminating geoscience information concerning Canada's landmass, including the offshore.

Intent of the process

The intent of this process is to staff one indeterminate position in Darmouth and determinate positions in Ottawa and Vancouver.

A pool of qualified candidates may be established through this process to staff identical or similar positions at Natural Resources Canada with various tenures (determinate period or indeterminate), language requirements (English Essential, French Essential, English or French Essential and Bilingual
(Imperative and/or Non-Imperative) and profile(s) (BBB/BBB, CBC/CBC, CCC/CCC, etc.).

Information you must provide

Your résumé.

In order to be considered, your application must clearly explain how you meet the following (essential qualifications)

A secondary school diploma or a satisfactory score on the Public Service Commission test approved as an alternative to a secondary school diploma; or an acceptable combination of education, training and/or experience.

Degree equivalency

Experience working with collection materials in a warehouse or lab facility.
Experience providing technical advice and information to clients, colleagues or supervisors.
Experience resolving technical issues.

Knowledge of word processing and spreadsheet software.

Experience working with scientific collections and data.

Conditions of employment

Reliability Status security clearance

Pre-employment medical.
Willing and able to work in a warehouse environment, including ability to climb ladders, work at heights, lift weight up to 20 kg.
Willing and able to work in the field and on board research vessels for extended periods.
Willing and able to work flexible hours and overtime as required.
