Intent of the process

The intent of this selection process is to fill one (1) indeterminate (permanent) position located in Ottawa, Ontario.

Telework agreements, renewable annually, may be considered on a case-by-case basis as per operational requirements and subject to management's approval.

A pool of qualified or partially assessed candidates may be established and may be used to staff similar positions at this group and level with various language requirements, with various tenures (casual employment, acting, assignment/secondment, deployment, term and/or indeterminate) within Environment and Climate Change Canada.

In order to be considered, your application must clearly explain how you meet the following (essential qualifications)

EDUCATION:

Graduation with a degree from a recognized post-secondary institution, with acceptable specialization in physics, geology, chemistry, biology, mathematics, computer science, engineering or some other science relevant to the position.

Note: The courses for the specialization must be acceptable and must have been taken at a recognized post-secondary institution, but not necessarily within a degree program in the required specialization.

Degree equivalency

EXPERIENCE:

E1: Experience in applying or developing computer models or simulation tools for the estimation of fate and trajectory of chemicals, including oil in aquatic environments

E2: Experience participating in technical or scientific projects or activities as part of a multi-disciplinary team

E3: Experience in the identification of critical Research and Development (R&D) gaps and playing a key role in executing R&D projects

E4: Experience in developing computer programs for computations, data analysis and data manipulation

ASSET EDUCATION:

AED1: Graduation with a graduate degree (master’s or doctorate) from a recognized post-secondary institution, with acceptable specialization in physics, geology, chemistry, biology, mathematics, computing science, engineering, or some other science relevant to the position.

Degree equivalency

ASSET EXPERIENCE:

AEX1: Experience in leading a project team including communicating results to a variety of stakeholders

AEX2: Experience in using numeric or statistical computing tools or programs, e.g., MATLAB, Mathematica, Maple, R, Python, etc.

AEX3: Experience in writing project proposals, technical reports, work plans, peer-reviewed publications or scientific reports

AEX4: Experience in the application of numerical methods or techniques in solving mathematical equations

AEX5: Experience in the development of hydrodynamic models for river or coastal settings

KNOWLEDGE:

K1: Knowledge about main national Canadian real-time meteorological, hydrological, and ocean monitoring networks

K2: Knowledge of fate and transport processes and behavior of oil and other petroleum and chemical products in aquatic environments

K3: Knowledge of basics of physical oceanography and fluid mechanics relevant to river and sea settings

K4: Knowledge of basics of computational fluid mechanics

ASSET KNOWLEDGE:

AK1: Knowledge of, familiarity with, or awareness of some of available modelling tools for the estimation of fate and trajectory of oil, in aquatic environments

AK2: Knowledge of basics of Geographic Information System (GIS)

AK3: Knowledge of basics of machine learning

AK4: Knowledge of basics of remote-sensing technologies and strengths and limitations of the technologies

ABILITIES:

A1: Ability to review, summarize and synthesize information for management
