The successful candidate will work with the supervisor and team of researchers on a project about assessing and communicating volcanic hazard and risk in southwest British Columbia. This will include planning and implementing strategies for engaging with volcanic hazard and risk assessment end users (municipalities, First Nations, and emergency managers), exchanging information with end users, determining suitable strategies for presenting volcanic hazard and risk information, and co-preparing final hazard and risk communications products.
The intention is to staff one student position for the completion of a Ph.D. science degree at Simon Fraser University.

• Currently enrolled or willing to enroll at Simon Fraser University in a Doctoral program, specializing in Geosciences.
• Graduation with a Bachelor of Science, with a specialization in Geology or other relevant specialization from a recognized post-secondary institution.
• Graduation with a Master of Science, with a specialization in Geology or other relevant specialization from a recognized post-secondary institution.
In the context of student recruitment in the federal public service, experience can be acquired through studies, work experience or volunteer activities.
• Experience in geoscience research.
• Experience in communicating science to a public audience.
