Duties

The position of Health Services Officer in the Regina, Saskatchewan office is located on the scenic and historic Depot grounds. This dynamic office is responsible for occupational health services to approximately 1300 members of the RCMP in Saskatchewan. As the head of the multidisciplinary health services team, you will be responsible for providing disability case management with the goal of having Members return to good health and eventually return to work. The OHS program is responsible to support regular Members' fitness for duty through screening (physical and psychological), monitoring health, promoting health, and assessing risks for specific occupational health conditions/hazards, and to provide disability case management to Members. The RCMP must set out its own occupational medical policies and standards. You will provide advice to management on the health service needs of the membership as well as providing health services to RCMP Members. Your multidisciplinary team is composed of two nurses, one psychologist, and several administrative staff.

Intent of the process

A pool of qualified candidates resulting from this process will be established to staff indeterminate full-time (37.5 hours/week) and part-time (18.75 hours/week) positions as well as casual employment (temporary employment of 90 working days or less in a calendar year).

Should a Civilian Member (CM) be found qualified and selected for appointment, the appointment will not result in a change of status to the Public Service (PS) category for the CM. Information regarding the CM appointment will be sent to all applicable candidates who are within the area of selection and participated in the advertised process.

Graduation with a degree from a recognized school of medicine

Degree equivalency

Occupational Certification: Eligibility for a license to practice medicine in a province or territory of Canada AND eligibility for a license to practice medicine within Saskatchewan

Recent and significant experience* in managing programs related to health care, occupational health care and preventative medicine
*Recent and significant is defined as the depth and breadth of experience normally acquired through performance of the duties over approximately 2 years within the last 5 years (please provide a supervisory reference who can validate this experience)

Recent and significant experience* in providing personal consultation to clients regarding their health services needs

Recent and significant experience* in the management of human and financial resources

The successful applicant will have to obtain an RCMP security clearance. The process also requires a Security/Reliability Interview, a field investigation in matters of credit/finances, education, employment, references, on-line activities, alcohol and/or drug use, etc.

Preference

Preference will be given to veterans first and then to Canadian citizens and permanent residents, with the exception of a job located in Nunavut, where Nunavut Inuit will be appointed first.
