The Geodetic Survey Division provides authoritative reference values, products and services available online for the integration of precise positioning and gravity measurements into national standards. These products serve as the common foundation for all mapping, charting, navigation, boundary demarcation, crustal deformation, and other georeferencing needs in Canada.
As a member of a project team, the Geodetic Engineer conducts research or operational projects related to the maintenance and enhancement of the Canadian Spatial Reference System (CSRS), supporting activities related to one or more geodetic technologies such as: global navigation satellite systems (GNSS), altimetry, gravity, geoid modeling or control networks. Activities include: organizing and conducting data acquisition activities in the field or remotely; conducting mathematical evaluation and analysis of geodetic and gravimetric data; installation and/or maintenance of electronic data acquisition systems and instrumentation at remote locations across the country; providing technical input and support in the development and improvement of specialized geodetic methods, processes, and instrumentation and related software development; and providing technical advice and result interpretations to colleagues, clients, and management.

The intent is to staff one (1) position on a permanent basis at the EN-SUR-02 group and level, located at 588 Booth Street, Ottawa, ON, with the possibility of other NRCan offices across Canada.
A pool of qualified candidates may be established through this process to staff identical or similar IT positions at Natural Resources Canada with various tenures (determinate period or indeterminate), language requirements (English Essential, French Essential, English or French Essential and Bilingual Imperative or Non-Imperative) and profile(s) (BBB/BBB, CBC/CBC,CCC/CCC, etc.), locations and conditions of employment.

► Graduation with a degree from a recognized post-secondary institution with acceptable specialization in land survey theory and practice or other related field such as geodesy, geomatics, geophysics or earth sciences.
► Experience in the acquisition, analysis or distribution of geodetic data, achieved in a work or academic setting.
► Graduation with a Masters or Doctorate degree from a recognized post-secondary institution with a specialization in geomatics engineering or geodesy.
► Successful completion of undergraduate or graduate courses in geodesy.
► Successful completion of undergraduate or other courses in computer science.
► Willing and able to work overtime and on weekends occasionally.
