Duties

Transport Canada is looking for a Heavy Duty Equipment Technician at its airport in Churchill, Manitoba. The successful candidate will perform preventative maintenance, inspections and repairs, and overhaul various equipment, vehicles, and diesel-powered generating plants. Primary responsibilities include:
• Maintaining and overhauling fixed and mobile gasoline and diesel-powered equipment
• Carrying out heavy, light, and small engine repairs
• Operating heavy and light equipment to assess their operating condition
• Carrying out welding and machinist duties during maintenance and repair activities
• Preparing a service schedule to ensure proper equipment maintenance, and source materials and supplies
• Assist with airport operations, and bird and wildlife control

In order to be considered, your application must clearly explain how you meet the following (essential qualifications)

• Heavy duty equipment technician trade certification, with Red Seal endorsement

• Experience inspecting, diagnosing, repairing, adjusting, overhauling, maintaining, testing and verifying heavy duty equipment

• Experience using computer software for diagnostics, function calibration, programming, service and parts information

If you possess any of the following, your application must also clearly explain how you meet it (other qualifications)

• Experience preparing detailed technical reports

• Experience providing instruction on the safe use of tools and equipment

Conditions of employment

Reliability Status security clearance

• Health Canada approved pre-employment and periodic health assessments

• Possession and maintenance of a valid and unrestricted license issued by the Province of Manitoba for Class 3 vehicles (minimum) with air brake endorsement
• Willingness and ability to wear CSA approved safety footwear and other personal protective equipment
• Willingness and ability to safely perform a variety of physically demanding and repetitive tasks (including lifting up to 75 lbs.)
• Willingness and ability to work irregular hours, overtime, weekends, statutory holidays, provincial/territorial holidays, and call-back or standby
• Willingness and ability to travel and work in a variety of weather conditions
