You are applying for the position of Director, Trade and Economic Analysis Division, who reports to the Chief Economist and is accountable for the development and oversight of a wide variety of economic analyses relating to Canada's international trade.

This process is to staff an indeterminate position. A pool of partially qualified candidates may be established through this process to staff similar positions with various tenures and security requirements, at an identical or equivalent group and level, at Global Affairs Canada and within the public service.

EDUCATION:
Graduation with a Master’s degree from a recognized post-secondary institution with an acceptable specialization in Economics or Statistics.
EXPERIENCES:
EX1. Significant* experience in preparing and presenting current economic analyses and research findings, including communicating very technical issues to non-experts;
EX2. Significant* experience in developing and maintaining working relationships with other branches within the organization, with other organizations, and/or with various research institutions;
EX3. Significant* experience in directing current economic analyses and providing intellectual rigor and guidance on research projects related to economic or international trade issues using quantitative methods; and
EX4. Experience in managing human resources**.
* Significant experience is defined as the depth and breath of experience normally associated with having performed the activities as part of the candidate's main duties in a professional capacity as a manager, subject matter expert or equivalent level, acquired over a period of at least five (5) years in the last ten (10) years.
** Managing human resources is defined as experience in the supervision of employees, establishment of work plans and performance objectives and assessment performance. Candidates must also specify the number of employees they supervised.
ASSET EXPERIENCES:
EX1. Experience in building and maintaining effective working relationships with international institutions or foreign governments;
EX2: Experience in providing verbal economic briefings to senior management within the organization. (Please describe the topic of the briefing as well as the titles of the individual(s) to whom the briefing was provided); and
EX3: Experience in coaching or mentoring junior economists.

Preference will be given to veterans first and then to Canadian citizens and permanent residents, with the exception of a job located in Nunavut, where Nunavut Inuit will be appointed first.
