Duties

Briefing Advisors play a crucial role in the fast-paced Executive Briefing team by coordinating briefing product requests and ensuring a consistent quality and look and feel to the products delivered to our clients.

The Executive Briefing Unit (DCB) works horizontally across Global Affairs Canada to coordinate a full spectrum of briefing materials (e.g. memos, meeting notes, recommendations, visits planning and briefing books) for Global Affairs’ ministers, parliamentary secretaries and deputy ministers.

The position offers the opportunity to develop capacity to move complex files within a large organization, build a broad intra-departmental network and gain a keen understanding of critical processes valued throughout government.

Intent of the process

The current intention of this selection process is to staff a minimum of 1 Briefing Advisor position and anticipatorily more positions with the language requirement bilingual imperative CBC/CBC on an indeterminate basis. A pool of partially qualified and/or fully qualified candidates resulting from this process may be established to staff similar positions within Global Affairs Canada with various language requirements and/or various tenures, according to the positions being staffed.

EDUCATION:

Degree from a recognized post-secondary institution or an acceptable combination of education, training and experience.

Degree equivalency

EXPERIENCE:

Experience in managing several projects simultaneously.

Significant* experience in providing advice and liaising with a variety of stakeholders (e.g. internal and external stakeholders) regarding established policies, guidelines or procedures.

Experience in preparing, editing or coordinating documents.

Significant* experience in client services.

*Significant refers to the depth and breadth of experience normally associated with the performance of the duties for approximately two (2) years.

ASSET QUALIFICATIONS:

Experience in drafting briefing documents or correspondence for senior management.**

Experience using a file management system or a tracking management system.

Experience working in a senior executive*** office.

Experience using MS Office Suite. (i.e. Word, Excel, SharePoint, MS Dynamics).

Experience in data visualization or manipulation.

Experience in the application and interpretation of ATIP legislation, regulations and related Treasury Board Secretariat policies and directives.

**Senior management is understood to mean a team or individuals in a high level management role within an organization whose day-to-day tasks focus on managing that organization (Director level (EX-01) or equivalent or above, or equivalent role in the private sector).

***Senior executive is understood to mean an individual typically at the highest level of management within an organization (Corporate Secretary, ADM, DM, or equivalent or above, or equivalent role in the private sector, such as Vice-President or CEO).

ORGANIZATIONAL NEEDS:
