Education:

Stream 1:
ED1. Graduation with a degree from a recognized post-secondary institution, with acceptable specialization in physics, geology, chemistry or some other science relevant to the position.

Note: The courses for the specialization must be acceptable and must have been taken at a recognized post-secondary institution, but not necessarily within a degree program in the required specialization.

Stream 2:
ED1. Graduation with a degree from a recognized post-secondary institution in mechanical engineering, civil engineering, electrical engineering, aeronautical engineering, geological engineering, naval architecture or some other engineering specialty relevant to the duties of the position.

Recognized post-secondary institution:
A public or private institution that has been given authority to grant degrees, diplomas, and other credentials by a public or private act of a provincial/territorial legislature or through a government-mandated quality assurance mechanism. For greater certainty, also included are institutions authorized to grant specific academic credentials for specific academic programs.

Degree equivalency

Experience (Streams 1 and 2):
E1. Significant* experience in planning and co-ordinating activities within an environmental protection program.

E2. Significant* experience in conducting lifecycle analysis studies for GHG (greenhouse gas) emissions.

E3. Experience** in supervising employees.

E4. Significant* experience in establishing and maintaining partnerships, and collaborating with stakeholders.

E5. Significant* experience in providing strategic engineering or scientific advice or recommendations to senior management (director level or above), to inform complex*** policy, regulations or programs.

* Significant is defined as the depth and breadth of experience associated with having performed a broad range of work-related activities normally acquired over a period of three (3) or more years.
** Experience is defined as the depth and breadth of experience normally associated with full time performance of the duties in a work environment, during a period of at least one (1) year.
*** Complex files would contain two or more of the following characteristics: high profile (e.g. public or media attention), multi-stakeholder, high value (e.g. include financial information), multi-organizational, multi-jurisdictional (e.g. public-private, federal-provincial, federal-municipal), broad in scope, requiring broad consultations, high impact or any other factors the candidate can demonstrate that constitute complex.

Asset Qualifications – Education (Streams 1 and 2):
AED1. Master’s degree from a recognized post-secondary institution in business or public administration, management science, environmental, chemical, mechanical, or civil engineering or other area relevant to the duties of the position.

Degree equivalency

Asset Qualifications – Experience (Streams 1 and 2):
AEX1. Experience using lifecycle analysis models or lifecycle analysis software to calculate carbon intensity.
AEX2. Experience in the development, administration, or implementation of regulations, policies, programs or initiatives.
AEX3. Work experience in any of the following sectors: transportation; electricity generation, transmission and distribution; oil and gas, including either fossil fuel extraction, production, distribution or use; low carbon fuels; clean technology sector.
AEX4. Experience in leading working groups, committees or a multidisciplinary team of professionals.
