Duties

The performance and projections of the CMIP6 Earth System Models (ESMs) for Canada’s three oceans. This position will focus on analyzing historic solutions and climatic projections from the CMIP6 models to investigate the models’ performances and the future hydrographic states for Canada’s three oceans. This position will require knowledge of physical oceanography and statistics.

Work environment

Working with our team of multidisciplinary scientists, the Physical Scientist will have access to our office space within the Bedford Institute of Oceanography, working in a hybrid environment of remote and on-site work at the discretion of the supervisor.

Intent of the process

The intent of this selection process is to fill one (1) term position to complete a research project in Dartmouth, Nova scotia. A pool of fully qualified candidates will be established and could be used to staff similar or identical positions with various tenures and linguistic requirements in the Ecosystems and Oceans Science Sector of Fisheries and Oceans Canada, in Dartmouth, NS or St. Andrew’s, NB.

EDUCATION:
• Graduation with a degree from a recognized post-secondary institution, with acceptable specialization in physics, geology, chemistry or some other science relevant to the position.

Degree equivalency

EXPERIENCE:
• Experience conducting scientific research in the field of physical oceanography or other relevant physical science.
• Experience in analysis of data using modern scientific programming languages, such as, but not limited to Python, MATLAB, or R.
• Experience analyzing, interpreting, and presenting scientific data or information.
• Experience in applying statistics to data analysis.
• Experience writing or contributing to the preparation of scientific papers and reports within a specialized area of physical science.
