Assessment accommodation

Positions could be staffed in Halifax, Amherst (Nova Scotia) and Moncton (New Brunswick) as well as other Indigenous Services Canada offices in the Atlantic region.

Depending on the needs and requirements of the service, the possibility of a telework arrangement from the Atlantic region could be considered. The request will be assessed in accordance with the provisions of the Directive on Telework.

Duties

Administrative support positions provide assistance to staff and managers in a wide range of capacities, depending on the needs of the organization and as it relates to a particular work unit.

These duties may include, but are not limited to, the following:
• coordinate meetings, teleconferences, web-based on-line meetings, schedules or presentations,
• record keeping/taking, record maintenance/filing, data input (including electronic records),
• research, compile and/or verify reference material, correspondence or other sources of information,
• provide service and assistance to internal and external clients via phone calls, emails and in person encounters,
• organize requests for travel, fleet vehicles and purchases,
• create and/or review expense claims, expenditures, invoices, reports and payments.

This process will be used to create a pool for indeterminate and specified period appointments. • Experience in coordination and administration of financial procedures (could include: monthly variance reporting, spreadsheets, invoice reconciliation and/or initiating purchasing)

• Experience coordinating and planning events
• Experience providing administrative support to management
• Experience in supervision
• Experience managing the flow of correspondence (e.g. receiving, analyzing, processing and tracking correspondence, reports, electronic messages or other documents) using a correspondence management system
• Experience in performing financial related tasks (could include: monthly variance reporting, budget tracking or forecasting, acquisition card/invoice reconciliation, initiating purchasing, arranging hospitality, managing petty cash and/or managing financial documents

Applicants who self-identified as Indigenous will be assessed first. Then a random or top down selection of candidates may be used in the determination of those to be given further consideration in the selection process.

The application will be used to assess the ability to communicate effectively in writing. The process may include other assessments such as an exam, an interview or reference checks.

VACCINATION

On October 6, 2021, the Government of Canada announced details of its plans to require vaccination across the federal public service.

As per the new Policy on COVID-19 Vaccination for the Core Public Administration Including the Royal Canadian Mounted Police, federal public servants in the Core Public Administration and members of the RCMP must attest to their vaccination status. The requirement for employees to be fully vaccinated applies whether they are teleworking, working remotely or working on-site. This is a condition of employment and it applies to indeterminate (permanent), determinate (term), casual, and student hiring. Should you reach the point in the selection process where it is necessary to verify terms and conditions of employment then the hiring manager or a human resources representative will contact you in order to complete an attestation.

Preference

Preference will be given to veterans first and then to Canadian citizens and permanent residents, with the exception of a job located in Nunavut, where Nunavut Inuit will be appointed first.
