The position is located in Ottawa ON however, consideration may be given to the possibility of working virtually.
The Adjudicator is accountable for holding hearings and/or rendering written decisions as a board of one or more persons in processes established pursuant to the Royal Canadian Mounted Police Act ("RCMP Act") and the Royal Canadian Mounted Police Regulations (including the Commissioner's Standing Orders) ("Regulations") on matters related to conduct and appeals as the designate of the Commissioner or with the delegated authority of the Commissioner.
The work requires a sound knowledge of administrative and employment law combined with a solid understanding of the principles of natural justice. The candidate must be familiar with the concept of and be able to apply the applicable principles of procedural fairness in order to ensure fair and impartial hearings. The candidate should have a comprehensive understanding of a wide range of legislation being applied by members of the Royal Canadian Mounted Police as well as knowledge of the specific legislation that governs the conduct and employment of members of the Royal Canadian Mounted Police and the related redress mechanisms. The candidate should also be familiar with law enforcement operations conducted by members of the Royal Canadian Mounted Police in order to understand the context of matters brought before an Adjudicator and to render appropriate decisions based on the specific cases, the relevant circumstances and the applicable legislation, rules and procedures. The candidate should be familiar with a wide range of jurisprudence, both internal and external, that relates to the current state of the law on conduct, employment, labour, human rights, and Canadian Charter of Rights and Freedoms issues. The candidate must also have strong legal research skills.

A pool of candidates may be established to staff other vacancies within the Royal Canadian Mounted Police (RCMP) on an indeterminate or specified period (including term, acting, or assignment/secondment) basis, with various linguistic profiles and various RCMP security clearances.
Should a Civilian Member (CM) be found qualified and selected for appointment, the appointment will not result in a change of status to the Public Service (PS) category for the CM.

EDUCATION:
Graduation from a school of law recognized by the law society of any province, e.g. JD, LLB, BCL, LLL (Quebec).
EXPERIENCE:
Experience in conducting legal research.
Experience in writing legal briefs/decisions.
Experience working in a contentious environment.
Experience in managing human resources.
ASSET EXPERIENCE:
Experience in working within the Public Safety Portfolio.
Experience dealing with appeals or conduct matters in a policing environment.
Experience working in a quasi-judicial environment.
Experience in the application of legal knowledge to RCMP operations or administration.

On October 6, 2021, the Government of Canada announced details of its plans to require vaccination across the federal public service. As per the new Policy on COVID-19 Vaccination for the Core Public Administration Including the Royal Canadian Mounted Police, federal public servants in the Core Public Administration and members of the RCMP must attest to their vaccination status. The requirement for employees to be fully vaccinated applies whether they are teleworking, working remotely or working on-site. This is a condition of employment and it applies to indeterminate (permanent), determinate (term), casual, and student hiring. Should you reach the point in the selection process where it is necessary to verify terms and conditions of employment then the hiring manager or a human resources representative will contact you in order to complete an attestation.
