The job involves both desk work and travel for services delivery to Indigenous communities in the Atlantic region.
The official position location is Halifax. Depending on the needs and requirements of the service, the possibility of a telework arrangement from the Atlantic region could be considered. The request will be assessed in accordance with the provisions of the Directive on Telework.
Indigenous Services Canada (ISC) has a unique mandate playing a role in supporting services and programs in communities such as health, education, economic development, housing, community infrastructure and social support. In the context of reconciliation, ISC supports Aboriginal peoples (First Nations, Inuit and Métis) in their efforts to improve health, social well-being and economic prosperity to the benefit of all Canadians.

The immediate intent of this selection process is to staff one indeterminate position. This process will be used to create a pool of fully or partially candidates to staff similar or identical position at Indigenous Services Canada (ISC) and other departments with various tenure, location, linguistic profiles, conditions of employment and security requirements

Education :
Graduation with a degree from a recognized post-secondary institution with acceptable specialization in nutrition, dietetics or home economics.
Occupational Certification:
Registered or eligible for registration as a Registered Dietitian in a province or territory of Canada.
Experience:
Experience planning, developing, managing and evaluating public health nutrition programs
Experience providing guidance and oversight to health care professionals
Experience working in interdisciplinary teams in collaborative practice environments
Experience formulating and providing strategic advice to management
Experience developing and maintaining positive relationships with diverse stakeholders
Experience managing major* projects.
NOTE: * In demonstrating “major”, the examples provided by candidates must meet at least three of the following criteria: be Regional Health Authority, Provincial or regional in scope; include the management of financial resources; be multi-year in terms of duration; have public visibility; include the involvement of multiple diverse partners or stakeholders; require the management of unforeseen challenges or shifting priorities; apply health equity principles and practices.
Asset Education:
Graduation with a Masters’ degree from a recognized post-secondary institution with acceptable specialization in nutrition, public health, community nutrition or related human nutrition, public policy, public administration or other discipline relevant to the position.
Asset Certification:
Certified Diabetes Educator (Canada)
Asset Experience:
Experience contributing to the planning and implementation of health promotion programs with Indigenous People and/or Indigenous communities
Experience in the development of policies with diverse partners, organizations or sectors related to nutrition
Experience contributing to the planning and implementation of health promotion policies, programs or initiatives addressing the nutritional health status of Indigenous Populations

Operational Requirements:
In order to work in each of the Atlantic provinces the Regional Nutritionist will need to be have valid, unrestricted, licenses/registrations as a Registered Dietitian in Nova Scotia, New Brunswick, Prince Edward Island and Newfoundland and Labrador.
Reliability Status security clearance
All employees of the core public administration are required to be fully vaccinated against COVID-19 and attest to their vaccination status unless accommodated based on a medical contraindication, religion, or another prohibited ground for discrimination as defined under the Canadian Human Rights Act.
Conditions of employment:
A valid, unrestricted, license/registration as a Registered Dietitian in one of the following provinces: Nova Scotia, New Brunswick, Prince Edward Island or Newfoundland and Labrador.
Possession of a valid driver’s license or personal mobility to a degree normally associated with the possession of a driver’s license.
Willing and able to travel: this could include travel to remote locations by small aircraft or boat.
Willing and able to work overtime.

On October 6, 2021, the Government of Canada announced details of its plans to require vaccination across the federal public service.
