Duties

Do you have banking or payment industry experience, and are you interested in moving to the public sector? Then a job with the Receiver General (RG) might be for you.

We are running this process with one goal – to recruit motivated and talented new employees to the Receiver General’s dynamic team.

As part of our mandate to safeguard the integrity of the Consolidated Revenue Fund (that is, all public money), the Receiver General team takes on a variety of roles.

We work closely with Departments and Agencies to ensure that payments to Canadians are timely and accurate. We work with them to implement new payment programs, support them throughout the issuance process, and provide emergency guidance when dealing with issues that may arise. This portion of our work is heavily tied to client service and system support.

We also work closely with our financial industry partners, to ensure that the Receiver General stays in line with current industry trends and to maintain our ability to issue payments to Canadians and Canadian businesses. We work closely with Canadian financial institutions, as well as our foreign service provider and industry groups such as Payments Canada. This portion of our work is often policy based, as we work with financial institutions and the industry to implement new and innovative ways to issue payments to Canadians and Canadian businesses, and to detect and avoid any related fraud. This work can also be operational, whether it is ensuring the issuance of foreign payments to recipients in hundreds of countries around the world, or answering questions from Canadians in search of the payments they’re due.

More precisely, who is the the Receiver General of Canada ?

We are the Payment Products and Services Directorate (PPSD), a team within the Receiver General Accounting and Treasury sector. If you have ever received payment from the Government of Canada – perhaps a student loan, or a tax return, for example – then you have dealt with our team. Throughout the Covid-19 pandemic, the RG has been responsible for distributing emergency benefit payments to Canadians, as well as ensuring the issuance of payments for the purchase of vaccines and PPE; all above and beyond the issuance of ongoing Government of Canada payments.

The Receiver General for Canada is the central Treasurer and Accountant of the federal government, and each year our Sector is responsible for managing $2 trillion dollars in cash flows Through our payment systems, every payment to or from the Government of Canada is issued under the name, and the control, of the Receiver General for Canada.

At a higher level, the Receiver General is part of Public Services and Procurement Canada (PSPC), a department that helps the Government of Canada serve Canadians; the Minister of PSPC also takes on the role of Receiver General. With a strong focus on quality customer service, we provide innovative common services such as real estate and building management, purchasing, banking, pay and pensions, and translation to other government departments, agencies and boards. By providing these centralized services to departments and agencies, we enable them to focus on what they do best: providing their programs and services to Canadians.

Intent of the process
