To be considered for the Research Affiliate Program (RAP), you must meet the following criteria:

• you are enrolled in an academic program that requires research as part of your curriculum

On October 6, 2021, the Government of Canada announced details of its plans to require vaccination across the federal public service. As per the new Policy on COVID-19 Vaccination for the Core Public Administration Including the Royal Canadian Mounted Police, federal public servants in the Core Public Administration and members of the RCMP must attest to their vaccination status. The requirement for employees to be fully vaccinated applies whether they are teleworking, working remotely or working on-site. This is a condition of employment and it applies to indeterminate (permanent), determinate (term), casual, and student hiring. Conduct and collect data associated with systematic searches to locate stranded seabirds
(Leach’s Storm-Petrels and Atlantic Puffins) at various industrial sites including fish plants and
energy storage/production facilities
Collect birds found stranded and process (band and measure) live seabirds
Using radar, collect and analyse movements of flying seabirds in relation to various illuminated
landscapes
Assist with Leach’s Storm-Petrel surveys in the Witless Bay Ecological Reserve
A large component of the work will be conducted in a field setting and/or outdoors, including in seabird
colonies on remote islands in eastern Newfoundland or at urban/industrial sites where seabirds become stranded on the Avalon Peninsula of Newfoundland.

Education
Must be currently enrolled or eligible to enroll in a graduate program (Master’s or PhD) at Memorial
University of Newfoundland in Biology, Cognitive and Behavioural Ecology, Environmental Science, or
comparable program.
Experience
1. Experience collecting and analyzing data using remote technologies, including marine radar, to
document bird movements
2. Experience handling live and dead birds including banding
English essential
