On October 6, 2021, the Government of Canada announced details of its plans to require vaccination across the federal public service.

Duties

Small Craft Harbours (SCH) is a nationwide program of the Department of Fisheries and Oceans, which operates and maintains a network of harbours in support of the needs of the commercial fishing industry. The mandate of SCH is to keep the harbours that are critical to the fishing industry open and in good repair. The program is delivered in cooperation with Harbour Authorities (local not-for-profit organizations) who manage the harbours.

As the Regional Engineer for the SCH Maritimes and Gulf Regions, you will lead a team of engineers, environmental officers, and technicians across New Brunswick, Nova Scotia, and Prince Edward Island, in the delivery of a multimillion dollar projects portfolio. Projects include a combination of major capital and maintenance works addressing life cycle asset management of existing harbour infrastructure as well as the development of new facilities from the early planning stages through to completion.

Intent of the process

The intent of this process is to staff one (1) position on a permanent basis in Moncton, NB. A pool of qualified candidates will also be created and may be used to staff future vacancies on a permanent and/or temporary basis within Fisheries and Oceans Canada.

EDUCATION
Graduation with a degree from a recognized post-secondary institution in civil engineering or other engineering specialty relevant to the duties of the position.

OCCUPATIONAL CERTIFICATION
Eligibility for certification as a professional engineer in Canada with specialization in an engineering specialty relevant to the position

EXPERIENCE
• Significant* experience in leading and managing a team of multidisciplinary engineering professionals or technical specialists engaged in activities involving the inspection, maintenance, and construction of infrastructures.
• Significant* experience working in a multidisciplinary design environment related to construction projects such as engineering design calculations, construction drawings, specifications, cost estimates, and tender documents.
• Significant* experience in evaluating engineering reports, analyzing results, and providing recommendations.
• Significant* experience in contract administration including managing technical consultants and contractors.
• Significant* experience in managing financial and human resources.

*Significant experience is defined as having the depth and breadth of the experience normally associated with having performed a broad range of complex related activities which would have been acquired over a period of three years or more within the past eight years.
