As a Firearms Agent you will have the opportunity to assist in administering the Firearms Act Canada (the Act) under a designation of authority from the Chief Firearms Officer. Duties of this position include, but are not limited to:
Functioning as intermediate-level decision makers on individual eligibility to hold firearms Possession and Acquisition Licences, Minor’s Licences, authorizations to transport, authorization to carry, or to acquire certain classes of firearms. Decisions are undertaken within a specified level of authority and are based on eligibility under the Act and potential risk to public safety.
Investigating, analyzing and making decisions to approve certain licences, authorizations and acquisitions. Decisions beyond the authority level of the Firearms Agent, such as licence refusals, will be referred to a Firearms Officer with a recommendation for action.
Accessing police, court and other secure information databases, and conducting interviews with a broad spectrum of people (e.g. firearms licence applicants, licensee family members / employers / etc., medical professionals, police, Crown, and others) in order to undertake thorough investigations.
Assisting Firearms Officers in the inspection of firearms businesses or shooting ranges to ensure compliance with the Act and Regulations.
Assisting in planning and implementing outreaches to client and stakeholder groups to provide information and assistance with compliance (e.g. remote or indigenous communities, other government departments, police, public interest groups, and others).
Responding to enquiries related to the Act and Regulations, the Canadian Firearms Program, and the office of the Chief Firearms Officer, including more specific enquiries related to decisions made under the Act.
A pool of candidates will be established and will be used to staff similar positions within the Canadian Firearms Program on an indeterminate or specified period (including term, acting, or assignment) basis, with various linguistic profiles and various RCMP security clearances.
Should a Civilian Member (CM) be found qualified and selected for appointment, the appointment will not result in a change of status to the Public Service (PS) category for the CM.

Reliability Status security clearance - All applicants for positions within the Royal Canadian Mounted Police will be subject to a thorough security clearance process which includes an interview wherein questions may include (but not limited to), reference checks, previous employment, on-line activities, credit checks, alcohol and/or drug use.
Successful completion of the Canadian Firearms Safety Course and the Canadian Restricted Firearms Safety Course.
Possession of a valid driver's licence.
Must work overtime and variable hours as required.
Must travel to and work in remote, rugged terrain and other locations as required.
Must handle firearms, as required, throughout their time in the position.
Must lift and carry up to 25 kg (+55 pounds), as required, throughout their time in the position.
Must work in an environment that involves possible exposure to unsettling and/or graphic police files.

HOW TO APPLY:
