As part of Natural Resources Canada, CanmetENERGY in Devon is one of the Canada’s leading research and technology organizations in the field of clean energy. With highly qualified research staff and unique R&D facilities, we provide innovation solutions for the environmentally responsible production and processing of hydrocarbon resources, and for mitigating the associated environmental impacts. We collaborate with industry, provincial/territorial governments, academia, and international organizations in research, development, and deployment of new technologies and innovations, from concept to bench-scale and pilot-scale testing, and to industrial demonstration and commercialization.
The intent of this process is to staff 1-2 positions for a period of 2 years.
A pool of candidates may be established through this process to staff identical or similar RES positions within Natural Resources Canada with various tenures (determinate period or permanent), various language requirements (English Essential, French Essential, English or French Essential, or Bilingual), and profile(s) (BBB/BBB, CBC/CBC, CCC/CCC, etc.), various security requirements (Reliability status or Secret clearance), various conditions of employment and for various locations.

• Graduation with an acceptable doctoral degree from a recognized post-secondary institution in a field of natural sciences related to the duties of the position, or the employer-approved alternative for the SE classification.
The employer-approved alternative for the SE classification is an acceptable master’s or bachelor’s degree coupled with acceptable research, training and experience. The degree must be from a recognized post-secondary institution and in scientific fields and specialties related to the duties of the position. The training and experience must clearly demonstrate the ability to do personal research of doctoral degree caliber.
• Experience in planning and conducting research
• Experience in working with a team of researchers or support staff
• Experience in developing mathematical models of chemical processes and in conducting process simulations of such processes by using process simulation software packages
• Experience writing technical reports, research proposals and journal publications
• Experience in presenting complex scientific issues and research results to professional, technical, or public audiences

• Productivity/Recognition:
Refers to recognized achievement in the form of authorship and editorship of published or unpublished reports, books, papers, peer-reviewed scientific journals or other communications resulting from:
*Research, experimental development, or tasking associated with operational equipment and problems; OR
*Operational research and scientific analysis; OR
*Review, analysis and evaluation of national and international research and development, OR
*Developmental work leading to the issue of patents, copyrights, or the creation of improved varieties, functions, or designs, and/or recognition by the professional community of the research environment.
• Experience in conducting experimental OR modelling research in the areas of heavy oil or oil sands bitumen upgrading, or petroleum refining, or biorefining, or hydrogen production, or carbon capture/utilization/storage (CCUS), or other chemical or petrochemical processes;
• Experience in using HYSYS/ASPEN for conducting process simulation
• Experience in applying life cycle assessment (LCA) methodologies or in using LCA models to quantify greenhouse gas (GHG) emissions of chemical processes
