Duties

Produce and develop custom geomatics products (maps and plans). Using CAD and GIS packages, extract, compile, analyze, verify, and assemble digital data in map form. Participate in and help with the development, organization and execution of field campaigns related to field investigations, and/or legal surveys. Provide advice and generate reports by researching records, archives and databases. Analyze and respond to requests for information from the general public, First Nations, other government departments and land administrators, etc. Observe health and safety guidelines and procedures in work activities and the work site. Carry out administrative activities such as maintaining supply inventories, field equipment and fleet vehicles.

Intent of the process

The immediate need is to staff one (1) position at the EG-04 group and level, located at 5320, 122 St. NW, Edmonton, Alberta and one (1) position at the EG-04 group and level, located at 365 Hargrave St., Winnipeg, Manitoba.

A pool of qualified candidates may be established through this process to staff identical or similar positions at Natural Resources Canada at the EG-04 group and level with various tenures (determinate period or permanent). The language requirements (English Essential, French Essential, English or French Essential and Bilingual), the method to staff a bilingual position (imperative and/or non-imperative), and linguistic profiles (BBB/BBB, CBC/CBC, CCC/CCC, etc.) may vary, as well as security requirements (Reliability Status, Secret), conditions of employment and work locations.

ESSENTIAL QUALIFICATIONS - candidates MUST meet all essential qualifications related to the specific EG-04 position to be considered for a position:

► A diploma (at least 2-year program) as a Technician or Technologist in geomatics (or a related field) from a recognized post-secondary institution.
OR
► An acceptable combination (minimum three years) of education and/or experience as a geomatics technician or geomatics technologist. Education does not need to be formal and could include on-the-job training that can be confirmed by a former or current manager.

Degree equivalency

► Experience processing geo-spatial data that has been collected from field surveys;
► Experience using CADD (computer-aided design and drafting) software for the creation of legal survey plans.

► Experience performing land survey field work.
► Experience using various software programs, including MSCad (MicroSurvey) and ESRI ArcGIS (10.6 minimum or Pro).
► Experience working with LiDAR data.
► Experience advising technical or professional personnel, clients or partners.

► Willing and able to work overtime and to adopt flexible work hours as required.
► Willing and able to do strenuous fieldwork.
► Willing and able to work long periods of sustained attention to a computer screen.
► Willing and able to travel within Canada.
► Willing and able to drive field vehicles, including trucks and all-terrain vehicles.
