The Travel Information Program is looking for energetic and motivated individuals to join its team. Travel Information Program officers monitor world events for incidents that could impact the safety and security of Canadians (coup d’états, terrorist attacks, civil unrest, natural disasters, etc.) and publish relevant information and advice on travel.gc.ca (one of the most visited GoC pages!). This is not your average 9 to 5 job. The program operates 24/7, 365 days a year.

Duties include:

- Monitoring, consulting and searching a variety of sources for information on current world events;
- Analyzing whether these events can affect the safety and security of Canadians;
- Consulting various internal stakeholders to validate facts and reach a consensus;
- Writing clear and concise advice for Canadians travelling abroad;
- Editing and translating of information and communications documents;
- Publishing advice on travel.gc.ca.

Future needs: A pool of candidates may be established to fill similar IS-04 positions within Travel Information Program (Travel Advice and Advisories), Consular Training, and Corporate Support. The tenures, language requirements and security clearance levels may vary depending on the positions to be filled.

EDUCATION
• A degree from a recognized university in Communications, Journalism, Political Science, International Relations, Translation or some other specialty relevant to the position.

Degree equivalency

EXPERIENCE
• EX1: Experience researching and analyzing information from a variety of sources on current issues;
• EX2: Experience in writing or editing concise information documents for the public;
• EX3: Experience in leading and coordinating consultation processes with various stakeholders.

If you possess any of the following, your application must also clearly explain how you meet it (other qualifications)

ASSET QUALIFICATIONS
• A1: Experience in the consular field;
• A2: Experience as a writer, translator or editor;
• A3: Experience applying the Government of Canada Policy on Communications and Federal Identity.

Bilingual - Imperative (CPC/CPC)
* Code P is for bilingual positions requiring the use of technical or specialized official language skills. These skills are normally acquired through specialized training or experience. The Second Language Evaluation (SLE) tests prescribed by the Public Service Commission are not used to evaluate skills requiring the use of code P.

*An exam will be administered to assess the CPC/CPC language requirement and the knowledge of English and French grammar. GAC is responsible for identifying and developing the appropriate assessment tools to assess code P.

OPERATIONAL REQUIREMENTS
• Candidate must be willing and able to work overtime in case of a crisis affecting Canadians abroad, on short notice;
• Candidate must be willing and able to be on standby on weeknights and weekends 24/7 (approximately one week per month) and carry a mobile phone at all times.

• Secret clearance (to be obtained upon appointment);
• The Policy on COVID-19 Vaccination for the Core Public Administration Including the Royal Canadian Mounted Police requires you to be fully vaccinated against COVID-19, and that you attest to your vaccination status as per the Policy unless accommodated based on a medical contraindication, religion, or another prohibited ground for discrimination as defined under the Canadian Human Rights Act.
