Duties

If you are looking to join Pacific Economic Development Canada, our Finance and Corporate Services Branch invites you to apply.

We are looking for people who think independently, work creatively, and enjoy working in a team environment to support the priorities of the agency. As a Senior Financial Analyst, you will be challenged to provide financial analysis, reporting, advice and assistance to senior executives, management and staff in a corporate setting. This position will play an essential role in reviewing and developing Treasury Board submission. Additionally, the position will compile information from several sources to develop and maintain strategic dashboards/reports for senior management, analyzing, reporting and understanding data, and work to improve data literacy and the ability to access data across the agency.

PacifiCan offices are open environments with well-regulated air quality, ergonomic sit/stand workstations, and a combination of natural and fluorescent lighting. The physical demands of these positions include spending a significant amount of time working on a computer, and reading documents. The intent of this process is to staff term and indeterminate appointments.

Education:
• A degree from a recognized post-secondary institution with specialization in accounting, finance, business administration, commerce or economics AND experience related to positions in the Financial Management Group; or
• Eligibility for or possession of a recognized professional accounting designation. The recognized professional accounting designations are Chartered Professional Accountant (CPA), Chartered Accountant (CA), Certified Management Accountant (CMA), or Certified General Accountant (CGA).

Degree equivalency

Experience:
• Recent* and significant** experience in at least two (2) of the following areas:
- Financial Planning
- External Planning – experience working with Central Agencies, such as Treasury Board, Department of Finance and Receiver General.
- Resource Management
- Grants & Contributions
- Advisory Services by providing advice and guidance to internal stakeholders on financial management

• Recent* and significant** experience in at least one (1) of the following areas:
- Accounting Operations
- Financial Systems
- Financial Policy
- Costing
- Internal Controls

• Experience in providing strategic advice, analysis, briefings, presentations and recommendations to management*** on a full range of financial management issues.

• Experience in leading teams and working groups

* Recent” experience is defined as experience normally acquired within the last five (5) years.
** Significant experience is defined as being one in which the person’s primary responsibilities include these duties and refers to the breadth and depth, as well as complexity of tasks, that could be expected to have been obtained by carrying out the functions for a period of thirty-six (36) continuous months. Work may include paid or volunteer work or graduate level research projects; academic coursework and undergraduate degree requirements will not be accepted.
*** Management is defined as an employee occupying a position at the EX-01 minus 1 level or higher.
