Assessment accommodation

When you apply to this selection process, you are not applying for a specific job, but to an inventory for future vacancies. As positions become available, applicants who meet the qualifications may be contacted for further assessment.

PLEASE NOTE, WE WILL ONLY ACCEPT ON-LINE APPLICATIONS RECEIVED VIA THE Canada.ca SITE. Persons with disabilities preventing them from applying on-line are asked to contact the individual noted at the bottom of this advertisement.

NOTE: Applications are to be received online by clicking on the button below. Please do not send your resume or application to the Contact noted unless you are a person with a disability who is unable to apply online. The Contact can assist with general questions.

When a manager has a vacancy for a specific position, they may request a number of random referrals to consider for their position(s). If there are qualified persons in the inventory pool, they may consider those already assessed. Once a candidate has been assessed, and found qualified, they will be placed into the pool of qualified persons and may be referred for future permanent or temporary vacancies.

***PLEASE NOTE***
Please apply only to the tenures (permanent or temporary, full time or part time) and durations (0 to 12+ months) you are willing to accept. Do not apply for a short term positions if you are not prepared to accept them or if you are not prepared to physically relocate to the area. Relocation for initial appointees is not provided for terms less than one year. For more information: https://www.canada.ca/en/treasury-board-secretariat/services/travel-relocation/addendum-initial-appointees-relocation-program.html

Failure to follow these instructions may impact your candidacy for appointments. It is the candidate’s responsibility to research the location, housing costs, transportation, etc. prior to applying.

If you are referred to a position and are not available to be assessed in the immediate future, your application may be rejected. It is your responsibility, should you be temporarily unavailable, to ensure your application in My Jobs has been retrieved or deleted until you are available to be assessed.

Your application in this inventory will be active for 180 days. A notice that your application is about to expire will be posted to the My Jobs menu of your account 28 days before the end of your active period. If you do not take action, your application will no longer be active and therefore no longer considered for this inventory. Should your application become inactive while the process is still open, a notice will be posted to your account indicating that your application has expired; you may select the link Update my Inventory Status to reaffirm your interest.

Original proof of your education will be requested and must be provided during the selection process, in order to verify that candidates meet the education requirement. Candidates who are unable to provide proof that they meet this essential qualification as requested may be eliminated from the process. Also note, if the name on your education credentials does not match the name on your current photo identification, you will need to provide proof of your name change.

Education obtained outside of Canada must be evaluated. Please contact The Canadian Information Centre for International Credentials as soon as possible to initiate the evaluation process http://www.cicic.ca/

Work environment

The RCMP Island District is looking for motivated and industrious individuals to be a part of a team of support personnel who directly impact the public and regular members who work in frontline policing.
You will become part of a dynamic group of Public Servants who are responsible for work in areas such as police records, customer service, procurement, finance and a host of other support tasks at an RCMP detachment.
Detachment Service Assistants and Administrative Assistant positions require the ability to use critical thinking skills to problem solve, anticipate needs, stay current with applicable policies and procedures as well as be adaptable in an ever-changing work environment. There are many distractions within an RCMP Detachment and candidates must be versatile and able to manage multiple tasks at once, with the understanding that constant interruptions throughout the day will be unavoidable.
Candidates must also have sound organizational skills, be a self-starter, possess a calm demeanor under pressure and have the ability to lead by example.
Please note, some positions are located in rural or isolated communities and require a medical clearance. These positions may also be a one-PSE (Public Service Employee) Detachment, meaning that the position is responsible for all administrative and operational support duties for that Detachment. It is a very demanding job and if interested, the candidate must be aware of the limited resources on site and be diligent in seeking out training and assistance if needed.

Intent of the process

A qualified group of candidates may be identified and may be used to staff future permanent or temporary vacancies (including terms, actings, casuals, assignments and secondments) in similar or lower-level positions (at full or part-time hours, including shift-work) in the various locations on Vancouver Island and the Sunshine Coast. Once established, the qualified pool will be valid for a period of one year and may be extended.

Should a Civilian Member (CM) be found qualified and selected for appointment, the appointment will not result in a change of status to the Public Service (PS) category for the CM.

Persons are entitled to participate in the appointment process in the official language of their choice. Applicants are asked to indicate their preferred official language in their application.

When submitting an application to this selection process, you will be prompted to answer screening questions concerning the essential education, and the essential and asset experience qualifications. It is your responsibility to provide clear and concrete examples in your responses to each question, including when (from-to), where (occupational title, organization) and how you obtained your education and experience. It is recommended that you describe the experience examples in specific terms, providing sufficient details so that the Assessment Board can clearly understand. Describe the situation/task, the action you took, what you accomplished and/or what you learned. Content of your response must be supported by your CV/resume as your responses to these questions will be used as a primary source of information and your CV/resume will only be used to validate this information. Should you indicate in your response "please refer to CV/resume" your application will be rejected. Lack of examples and details will result in your application being rejected as the Assessment Board will have insufficient information to determine if the requirement is met.

Any or all of the asset qualifications, operational requirements, and organizational needs may be used for the screening of applications. If you meet these criteria, please clearly demonstrate how you meet them in writing. Provide examples and describe the work/duties you have performed. Failure to do so may result in your application not being considered further during the screening process.

NOTE: Successful candidates will require a valid RCMP security clearance prior to appointment and throughout the tenure of their employment. The process to obtain RCMP security clearance involves a security/reliability interview and a field investigation regarding matters of criminal activity which includes reference checks, verification of credit/financial status, education, employment, etc. As such, the process may take several weeks or months to complete.

To be granted RCMP security clearance and to maintain the ethical standards of the RCMP, candidates must not be, or have been, involved in certain criminal activities, have been dishonourably discharged, have pending personal bankruptcies, etc. For additional information and a complete list of activities, please visit http://www.rcmp-grc.gc.ca/en/good-character . The security requirements are the same for all employees of the RCMP.

Depending on the requirements of the position(s) being staffed from this process, for current or future vacancies, any or all of the asset qualifications, operational requirements, and organizational needs may be applied at the time of staffing. Candidates may be contacted and assessed against these criteria at any time during this process.

Interested persons must meet the essential qualifications to be appointed to the position, in a manner determined by the Selection Board. A person may be appointed to the position even though he/she does not meet any or all of the asset qualifications, operational requirements or organizational needs. However, meeting these criteria is desirable and may be a deciding factor in choosing the person to be appointed.

Once established, the qualified pool will be valid for a period of 12 months and may be extended.

Until you are contacted directly for further assessment, all information or notifications related to your application or notifications will be available in your My Jobs account.

If a qualified candidate has been selected and appointed on an indeterminate basis from the established pool, they will be removed from the pool. If a candidate is selected for a specified period (including term, acting, or assignment/secondment) appointment, they will remain in the pool for future offers.

If a candidate accepts a term position, they will not be referred further to temporary (term) positions. They can remain in the pool for permanent positions.

This process and the resulting pool will only be used to staff positions in the RCMP.

Any information provided by a candidate through their application or assessment that is deemed to be incorrect or fraudulent will be eliminated from further consideration.

Experience qualifications will be assessed upon application. Further confirmation or assessment may be conducted through reference checks.

All information obtained throughout the selection process, from time of application to close of process, may be used to evaluate candidates.
