Stream 1 (ENG-03):
Graduation with a degree from a recognized post-secondary institution in mechanical engineering, chemical engineering, environmental engineering, energy engineering, civil engineering, electrical engineering or some other engineering specialty relevant to the duties of the position.
Stream 2 (PC-02): Graduation with a degree from a recognized post-secondary institution, with acceptable specialization in physics, geology, chemistry, or some other science relevant to the position.
FOR BOTH STREAMS:
• Significant experience in conducting technical analysis or research related to at least one of the following areas: solar heat, geothermal heat, wind energy, hydropower energy, marine energy, renewable heat and energy storage, community energy systems, combined heat and power systems, district energy systems, heat pumps, renewable energy resource assessment, grid integration of renewable energy, hydrogen produced from renewable energy sources, building enclosures, gas-based space and/or water heating systems, electrical systems, or building energy modeling and simulation.
• Experience in developing, planning or undertaking technical projects, which may include: negotiation, defining project scope and milestones, project scheduling, contracting, resource identification and allocation, project management, developing final reports and publishing conclusions, recommendations, and next steps related to at least one of the following areas listed directly above.
• Significant experience using different programming languages or using energy modeling or simulation software to simulate energy systems or processes for the purposes of testing, validation, calibration or optimization.
• Experience working, consulting or engaging with at least one of the following:
o Renewable energy stakeholders;
o Provincial or municipal organizations or stakeholders,
o Utilities and/or independent power producers;
o Indigenous organizations or communities;
o Remote industries or communities;
o Developers, builders, facility managers or renovators;
o Manufacturers of equipment for: space heating, water heating, heat pump, heat recovery ventilation or combined heat and power
EXPERIENCE IS DEFINED AS 2-4 years within the last 8 years.
SIGNIFICANT EXPERCERIENCE IS DEFINED AS 4+ years within the last 8 years.

Knowledge of the processes, state of the technology and industry trends in one or more of the following areas:
o renewable energy such as: solar heat, geothermal heat, wind energy, hydropower or marine energy;
o resources assessment for renewable energy;
o integrating renewable energy into the grid;
o community energy systems (residential or commercial) or their components such as: combined heat and power, district energy systems, heat pumps, space or water heating systems;
o hydrogen production from renewable energy sources for distribution, storage, or for end-use applications in the built-environment;
o building science and its use in developing robust and efficient buildings.
• Ability to use programming languages or energy modeling or simulation software to be used to simulate systems or processes for the purposes of testing, validation, calibration or optimization of energy systems within or for the built environment.

Graduate degree(s) or other certifications relevant to the position(s).
Experience
• Experience in carrying out the technical review of renewable energy projects or proposals, or preparation of technical proposals related to renewable energy;
• Experience using or contributing to technical codes, regulations, or standards;
• Experience programming in Prython, R, Matlab, JavaScript, SQL, Julia, C, C++, FORTRAN, LabView or others;
• Experience in creating or preparing model based simulations using software such as TRNSYS, RETScreen, System Advisor Model (SAM), Hybrid Optimization of Multiple Energy Resources (HOMER), Polysun, EES, GLD, EnergyPlus, OpenStudio, HOT2000 or others;
• Experience in using design software such as Solidworks, Auto CAD or others;
• Experience in using computation fluid dynamics (CFD) software such as Ansys, Star CCM, Comsol, Telemac or othes;
• Experience using LABVIEW for analysis and processing of lab-based data collection;
• Experience in data science or database management;
• Experience with creating, organizing, manipulating, analyzing and presenting geospatial data and proficiency using one or more GIS software packages (e.g. ArcGIS, QGIS or equivalent);
• Experience in conducting engineering or research projects related to clean or renewable energy in remote or Indigenous communities;
• Experience in power systems engineering, transmission inter-connection analysis or capacity expansion modeling;
• Experience with determining and analyzing energy end-use at the building and community scale;
• Experience setting up laboratory prototypes and setting up and using data acquisition systems and sensors for collection of data in either a laboratory or field-testing environment;
• Experience in working with or assessing low global warming potential refrigerants for mechanical system performance;
• Experience applying building science principles to housing or building design or renovation issues;
• Experience utilizing housing or building energy research findings to develop outcomes appropriate for the housing or building marketplace;
• Experience with quantifying and analyzing greenhouse gas emissions associated with energy usage at the building and community scale;
• Experience in designing, planning, and conducting research in the field of river hydrokinetic or tidal current energy areas, or river engineering;
• Experience in conducting analyses involving life-cycle cost, life-cycle carbon, or embodied carbon;
• Experience in manufacturing plant operations, engineering or management.
