It is expected that the student will work between 10 to 20 hours per week. The hourly salary varies depending on the level of experience and (or) education, according to the Treasury Board student rates of pay. Payments will be made in equal installments three times per year.
$22.71 to $28.57 per hour (To start as soon as possible – as early as May 2022 until December 2024.)

Who can apply: Students enrolled or willing to enroll in a MSc program at the University of Victoria (proof will be required before the start date) with specialization in Geosciences or other relevant specialization.

The successful candidate will work with the supervisor and team of researchers to help develop a rapid disaster model methodology for risk analysis following a major earthquake in Canada.

The intention is to staff one student position for the completion of a Master of Science degree at the University of Victoria.

• Currently enrolled or willing to enroll at the University of Victoria in a Master of Science program, specializing in Geosciences or in a field relevant to the position.
• Graduation with a Bachelor of Science, with a specialization in Environmental Science or other relevant specialization from a recognized post-secondary institution.

Degree equivalency

In the context of student recruitment in the federal public service, experience can be acquired through studies, work experience or volunteer activities.

• Experience using geophysical data to perform analyses.
• Experience communicating science to the public.
• Experience preparing scientific reports.
• Experience using scientific computing languages.
• Experience with computer analysis of seismic data.
