Assessment accommodation

The term “Indigenous peoples" is the collective term in Canada to include First Nations, Inuit and Métis. It includes individuals, communities, bands, nations, organizations and urban populations. The word “Indigenous” can be used in place of “Aboriginal” in hiring, although the Employment Equity Act refers to Aboriginal peoples, specifying that “Aboriginal peoples means persons who are Indians, Inuit or Métis”.

Intent of the process

The intent is to staff a position on an indeterminate basis at Crown-Indigenous Relations and Northern Affairs Canada (CIRNAC). A pool of partially or fully qualified candidates may also be established to staff similar or identical positions at Crown-Indigenous Relations and Northern Affairs Canada (CIRNAC) and Indigenous Services Canada (ISC) with various linguistic profiles as well as tenures (term or indeterminate), location in the National Capital Region and/or security clearance, which may vary according to the position being staffed.

EDUCATION:

Degree from a recognized post-secondary institution in one of the following: Art History, Fine Arts, Indigenous Studies, Anthropology, History or Museum Studies OR an acceptable combination of education, training and/or experience.

Degree equivalency

EXPERIENCE:

Experience in art collections or gallery management.

Experience in the provision of expert advice to various stakeholders regarding the promotion of arts and cultural activities.

Significant* experience working with and establishing effective networks with Indigenous peoples and art museums or cultural institutions for the promotion of arts and culture.

Experience in the management of human and financial resources.

*Significant experience is defined as having the depth and breadth of the experience normally associated with having performed a broad range of various, complex related activities which would have been acquired over a period of three years.

ASSET QUALIFICATIONS
(Not essential, but preference may be given to candidates who possess asset qualifications)

EXPERIENCE:

Experience as lead curator on 3 major exhibitions.

Experience in developing and implementing policies for the promotion of Indigenous arts and culture.

Experience in preparing publications (e.g. articles, theses, etc.) on developments or initiatives related to Indigenous arts and culture.

Experience coordinating advisory committees.

Experience in chairing or facilitating meetings or committees or negotiations related to arts and culture.

The position to staff is Bilingual BBB/BBB. However, non-imperative appointments could also be considered.

OPERATIONAL REQUIREMENTS

Able and willing to work overtime, sometimes on short notice.
