👉 What is a Technical Data Officer?
A Technical Data Officer is someone who is the gatekeeper of technical data documentation; including all technical drawings, manuals, reports and certificates. Using the Canadian Coast Guard(CCG)’s digital repository called Meridian, all technical data is uploaded and maintained by the Technical Data Management (TDM) Officer. TDM Officer are also responsible for making changes to drawings and ensuring the most up-to-date version is available for view in Meridian for the clients to use in their design or engineering work. For example, when new equipment is added to a ship, the TDM Officer is responsible for all new and revised drawings and for keeping them up-to-date.
The main clientele are personnel from Marine Engineering, Marine Civil Infrastructure, and Electronics and Informatics departments. The service offering of a Technical Data Officer is defined as follows: acquisition, development, management and disposal of Technical Documentation associated with CCG assets such as ships, hovercraft, navigation and communications systems and associated infrastructure, as well as environmental response systems, whether hardware or software.
This process is to fill 3 Technical Data Officer positions for the following cities: Quebec City (QC), Sarnia (ON) and Ottawa (ON).
A pool of pre-qualified candidates will be established from this process and may be used to fill the same or similar positions within the Department of Fisheries and Oceans Canada and the Canadian Coast Guard.

EDUCATION
Ed1: A secondary school diploma or employer-approved alternatives.
EXPERIENCE
Ex1: Experience in management, processing and production of architectural or civil engineering technical documents using computer aided drafting software such as AutoCAD, Inventor, SolidWorks, Catia, Creo or other Computer Aided Design (CAD) software.
Ex2: Experience in reading, interpreting, and managing technical data and documentation* for various engineering and technical disciplines.
Ex3: Experience providing technical data information management support to clients for planning, acquisition, distribution, change, or archiving of information.
Ex4: Experience in researching and analyzing information.
*Such as those of technical drawings, requirement and performance specifications, Bills of Material, operation and maintenance application requirements, change objects.

EDUCATION
AEd1: A post-secondary school diploma /degree in one of the following engineering technology disciplines: drafting and design, marine, mechanical, civil, architectural, electronics or informatics, or an **acceptable combination of education, training and experience.
** An acceptable combination of education, training and experience is defined as a minimum of a secondary school diploma, and a minimum of five (5) years of work experience in a drafting and design, engineering, technical, or information management discipline.
EXPERIENCE
AEx1: Experience working in a drafting discipline, such as civil technology, architectural technology or naval architecture
AEx2: Experience managing records within a document management or enterprise resource planning software application such as Accruent Meridian, IBM Maximo, SAP, OpenText.
AEx3: Experience developing business analysis, technical data management strategies, data modelling or workflow.
AEx4: Experience in providing engineering, maintenance, or operational support expertise to personnel in one or more of the following technical domains: marine, civil, architectural, mechanical, electronics, and informatics.
AEx5: Experience in performing configuration management of assets, systems, equipment, or components; either hardware or software.
